Three months of EuroMaidan rallies, in which nearly 100 people were killed in clashes between police and protesters, succeeded in ousting Viktor Yanukovych as president. But now the organizers want a say -- and positions -- in the new government.

A government of popular confidence cannot include people on the list of Ukraine's richest citizens, or executive agency employees, or members of the presidential administration since the beginning 2010, according to the set of criteria formulated by Maidan activists.

"The other criteria include experience of working in a specific sector for at least seven years, except the Interior Ministry and the Security Service; experience of holding managerial posts for at least five years, a complete lack of involvement in human rights abuses in corrupt deals," the circle of Maidan activists, known as the People's Trust Kolo, said in a statement.

"We will check each candidate to be proposed by the new parliamentary majority for compliance with these criteria and inform you about the results. Each member of the new government must secure the Maidan's approval," the statement says.

Valeriy Pekar, a representative of the Kolo's secretariat, told reporters that Kolo is an umbrella organization encompassing the key organizations of the Maidan movement enjoying the reputation of the most powerful, most popular and most trusted ones.

The Automaidan movement's representative Serhiy Poliakov said that Kolo also includes Olha Bohomolets of the Maidan's medical corps, Dmytro Yarosh of the Right Sector, Father Stefan of the Maidan's Spiritual Rada, Oleh Mykniuk of the organization of Afghan war veterans, Volodymyr Viatovych of the Hromada Sector, and also Ruslana Lyzhychko and Sviatoslav Vakarchuk.

"The Kolo is not the governing body of the Maidan. Conditionally speaking, it is a link between the Maidan and the managers to be hired by the people," Father Stefan said.

The Kola membership will be extended, while its members have no ambitions to fill any posts, Kolo representatives said. "We want a government of popular confidence to be formed, not just an ordinary government. Such a government must consist of recognized professionals with an impeccable reputation, not party functionaries," the statement says.

Kolo representatives said they held talks with acting Finance Minister Yuriy Kolobov at Kolobov's initiative on Monday evening that lasted for many hours. The subject of the meeting was the monitoring of the transfer of power.

They said they were satisfied with the outcome of the talks, noting that the acting finance minister was ready to discuss the most complicated issues in detail. Pekar told a journalist that the situation was complicated, adding that if effective work was done the country might avoid default.
