Doesn't sounds like thief, doesn't look like Thief.  It's simply not Thief.

I've never played a Thief game though at one point here on the forums I nearly vowed to pick this up to help with the developers' sales.  (There was an article about how their sales don't match up to the greatness of their games and I really liked Deus EX: HR.)

However, isn't it worrisome that they built it one way (experience points/explosions, etc) and undid it?  I mean?  Won't that kind of hurt the game?  Part of what makes games great is when everything all fits together.

Look at a great game like Dead Space 1 or 2.  There is such a precise balance between the ammo drops, your accuracy, and how you level up on workbenches.

Now, look at a crap game like Champions-Online.  Everything in that game felt like someone was just trying to check features off of the retail box to pull you in.  None of it, however, really came together in a fun way.

I'm not a developer and it's maybe good that they re-did things how the original fans want them.  Still, though, the fact that they weren't building the game from the ground up with a defining vision from the get-go could be trouble derp.

Focus mode is a CHEAT!, it's just breaks immersion and kills any need for exploration. Why explore?, when you can already see it. DUMB! The frequent cut-scenes are also worrisome.

I appreciate that they took the time to consider the comments from series fans.  This game is near the top of my "Must Play in 2014" list.

@Fire_Wa11 I think it's one of the easier aspects of the game to tweak. don't know if there's still a xp system but in you remove xp from headshots and add some more for completing missions or other sidequests you'll end up about the same without feeling like a arcade shooter? (just guessing here)

I don't think they've removed any explosions. it's 2014, everybody wants to be cinematic and have good trailer-material for the big crowds.

cutscenes work for some games but still, dishonored, bioshock infinite and half-life 2 knows that immersion comes from NOT breaking that immersion.

@Garm31 I wouldn't be surprised if the developers are fans and want to make it hardcore, but then you have a publisher that might push for big sales and making it appeal to everyone.

at least they're taking the time to make sure then game can be enjoyed without bat vision and didn't implement the mechanic too deep into the story or made in necessary.

cutscenes sounds like a big mistake for this kind of game on the other hand.

@Garm31 I think he said that you can turn that off, as well as the HUD for a more immersive experience. If so that's what I'll be doing.

I am really looking forward to this game, probably the only game announced so far this year that I do.

@Garm31

You forget that Garrett has a mechanical eye. It makes for a good excuse to include this alternate vision.
