Green Frenzy Catching On
HSK (Star of Mysore)Our mother earth was once fully dressed in green. When man appeared on the scene, he began to denude the earth of its green cover. The earth cannot bear to be bared. Man is beginning to see that ruthless felling or trees and cutting of shrubs, plants and creepers indiscriminately will spell his disaster. He is half-heartedly trying to rectify the situation by planting trees and adopting other measures. Read On

Olympics: Chinese have done it!
The Chinese have done it. The "coming out" party was a grand success. China had shed all reservations and expressed its feeling of solidarity with the rest of the world. The Bird’s Nest was glowing with fireworks and the lights of different colours. The Chinese opened the bamboo curtain and allowed people to cross the famous Great Wall of China. Read On

RBI Reddy’s Rule
The result is felt by the banks as well as the borrowing community. Interest on home loans is bound to increase. In view of the huge amounts involved, quantitatively it is steep. The banks have been increasing the deposit rates also. The rate of 8 or 9 per cent hitherto being paid on deposits is to be increased. Read On

UPA Government’s misadventure?
For the first time in recent years, the industry felt the heat of the change in the contour of power at the Centre. The Samajwadi Party which lent support to the Government is said to be discomfortingly close to Anil Ambani, the estranged brother of Mukesh Ambani. The meeting between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Mukesh Ambani caused grave concern for Anil Ambani and Amar Singh of the Samajwadi Party as well as its President Mulayam Singh Yadav. Trust Vote and the great Indian Drama
The great Indian drama of the century is unfolding itself with all its bewildering features. “Act one, scene one” was the Leftists deserting the UPA and running away fearing American imperialism. “Scene Two” is one of “Crowning Glory”. Who else is more competent than Mayawati with her natural acting? She has her own territory called UP (note the similarity between UP and UPA). She has now extended her territory and acquired the queenship of the third front. Who knows? Her territory may spread to the whole of India. Nothing is impossible in politics. Read On

Coalition, Coagulation or Confusion?
Very often it is seen as a bundle of opportunists and unless they shed their selfish interests and think of larger interests of the party or country, such an arrangement is bound to flounder sooner or later. The political democracy that we have adopted under our Constitution pre-supposes the existence of two major parties, having their own well-defined policies and programmes. Read On

More about Football
The IPL games made the people go almost mad. It usurped the prime television time and proved to be a great entertainer. People would rather miss the movie but not the league match. The media barons revelled in it because there was much money in it. Even the big wigs of the business world evinced much interest in it and bought the players as if they were cattle. Read On
