A paramilitary group called Phantom Pain, which is controlled by Blue Cosmos/Logos terrorist group, steals three of ZAFT's newest Mobile Suits. Shinn Asuka and the rest of the crew of the ZAFT battleship Minerva, along with Athrun Zala (who assumes a false name), pursue the Phantom Pain but then encounter rogue ZAFT soldiers who intend to drop the Junius Seven colony upon the Earth.
