The Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX is an expensive computer mouse that works on any surface.
Microsoft has BlueTrack laser technology to enable mice to work on any surface – except glass. So Logitech has gone one better. Thanks to the firm's 'Darkfield' tech, the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX works happily on glass, as well as every other surface we could think of. It also provides a high degree of accuracy.
Designed to go with a laptop, the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX is fairly petite, and should serve well as a portable peripheral. Its pleasing shape sits well in the palm, and the dark, rubberised-plastic body is both comfortable to hold and attractive.
With the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX you get the usual right and left click, plus forward and back thumb buttons, a clickwheel (which can also tilt left and right) and a 'Windows' button.
The Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX comes with a tiny USB wireless receiver dongle that Logitech encourages users to keep plugged into their laptops. This is a 'unifying' dongle, which can be used to hook up with multiple compatible peripherals at once. Like the laser-tracking system, the wireless was faultless in our tests.
There are lots of thoughtful features. For example, while the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX holds two AA batteries, it can still run on one – potentially handy if you run out of juice on the road and can only manage to cadge one spare from a friend.
If you press down on the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX's wheel, scrolling switches to ‘hyperfast’, allowing you to buzz through the largest of iTunes libraries in no time at all; press again and it switches back to normal scrolling for more accurate file selection.
