Biography
Bonobo is a name of, at least, two artists: 1) A pseudonym of Simon Green (UK producer / musician / DJ). 2) A Dutch electronic project.
1) A UK producer / musician / DJ (b. Simon Green, in Brighton, UK - aka Barakas), most notable for: “Dial ‘M’ for Monkey” (Jun 03) & “Days to Come” (Oct 06). With the experimental warmth of 60s French films & pizzicato-esque breakbeats - he developed the niche of chilled post-party downtempo, débuting at eighteen years old with “Terrapin” (on ”When Shapes Join Together”, Tru Thoughts, (Oct 1999). His latest album is “Black Sands” (Mar 10), which has yielded two singles with Andreya Triana (vocals) - “Eyesdown” (with remixers: Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points, Warrior One, Laurie Osborne aka Appleblim & Keiran Lomax aka Komonasmuk) & “Stay The Same”.
After his successful début, though tempted by offers from Mute & XL (after the official issue of “The Scuba EP” & “Terrapin” single), Green stuck with Tru Thoughts for the acclaimed début LP “Animal Magic” (Jul 00). This completely self-produced and mainly self-instrumented album was highlighted by dub electronica, funk & the use of sitars. With “Animal Magic” such an obvious success, plans were made for European support appearances & a follow-up album. “Dial ‘M’ For Monkey” was released on Ninja Tune (Jun 03, Matthew Cohen / aka Matt Black & Jonathan More’s label - together, best known as, Coldcut). A tour followed, to support the release, as documented on the “Live Sessions” EP (May 05).
