Norwegian DJ Cashmere Cat Goes Spartan on 'With Me' - Premiere
New EP picks up where Lana Del Rey, 2 Chainz remixes left off

Cashmere Cat, the Norwegian DJ born as Magnus August Høiberg, turned heads in 2012 by releasing a series of remixes, including new versions of Lana Del Rey's "National Anthem" and 2 Chainz and Drake's "No Lie." The unorthodox remixes stripped the songs of their core identities and replaced the music with minimalistic, skittering beats that landed far outside the normal pop offering. "With Me," the lead track from the upcoming Wedding Bells EP, finds Cashmere Cat continuing his Spartan style and applying the same aesthetic to the accompanying video.

The 25 DJs That Rule the Earth

The video, which is daringly sparse, consists entirely of two lovers locked in an extended embrace. As the camera spins around the pair, Cashmere Cat adds a melancholy piano and a pair of intertwining beats. On one end is a buzzing synth pattern and on the other is a delicate twinkling that sounds like a music box. For the rest of the song, Cashmere Cat plays off the differences between the two sounds, pitting them up against each other and giving each its own space.

Dominic Flannigan, the creative director of Cashmere Cat's label LuckyMe, tells Rolling Stone, "Here, we're forced to experience just one shot with no narrative, only a study in juxtaposition and subtle color to try convey the feeling of young love: equal parts heady romance and sexual tension. There is nothing else."

"With Me" is available now and the Wedding Bells EP will be released on February 10th.
