System Adequacy and Market Modeling
One of the TSOs’ main responsibilities involves maintaining security of supply through the continuous balancing of generation and demand. In order to indentify the generation and load trends at European level and to determine the actions required to accommodate these changes, ENTSO-E created the System Adequacy and Market Modeling (SAMM) WG.
This group is responsible for producing a range of European outlook and adequacy forecasts:
- ENTSO-E Winter and Summer Outlook Reports present the views of Europe's electricity TSOs regarding national or regional security of supply for the summer and winter period and highlight possibilities for neighboring countries to contribute to the generation/demand balance in critical situations. These documents can be downloaded here: https://www.entsoe.eu/index.php?id=50.
- ENTSO-E Scenario Outlook and Adequacy Forecast (SOAF) Reports include a mid to long-term assessment of system adequacy. The SOAF has been developed as the successor to the former UCTE System Adequacy Forecast and ETSO Power System Adequacy report. The SOAF analyses the adequacy of the pan-European power system by providing an overview of generation adequacy for all ENTSO-E members, for regions and for individual countries. These documents can be downloaded here: https://www.entsoe.eu/index.php?id=228
In addition to compiling these reports on an annual basis, WG SAMM is also responsible for the pan-European Market Database which is an essential input for the market studies developed within the Regional Groups’ and TYNDP activities.
