Pokémon Organized Play Seasonal Format Rotation

16 July, 2013 in Play! Pokémon

Changes to the Play! Pokémon Modified format for the 2014 tournament season have been announced.

Effective: 8/28/2013

In the interests of maintaining a healthy tournament environment, Pokémon Organized Play begins each new tournament season by removing older expansions from Modified format competition. Each annual rotation challenges existing players to create new strategies while enabling new players to get into Organized Play with minimal investment.

The 2014 season started on July 9th, 2013, so players could get an early start on working towards the 2014 Pokémon World Championships. However, we will rotate expansions on August 28th, 2013.

The Modified format for the 2014 season will consist of the following expansions:

Black & White—Next DestiniesBlack & White—Next Destinies

Additional expansions become legal as they are released into a market.

A New Format for 2015

In addition to announcing our 2014 rotation, we are also pleased to give players a sneak peek at one of the changes that they will see after next year’s expansion rotation.

Starting in late 2014, a new TCG format will be joining the familiar Modified format as a legal option for sanctioned Pokémon events of all sizes. Because this new format will allow players to use all sets from Black & White on, players will have even more options when designing a winning deck!

We will provide more details as we near the end of the 2014 tournament season!
