Bay Area Typhoon Haiyan Relief efforts

The typhoon-ravaged Philippine islands face a daunting relief effort as bloated bodies lay uncollected and uncounted in the streets and survivors plead for food, water and medicine.

Here are different resources you can use to help the relief effort or find victims of the typhoon:

Google Person Finder and Relief Map for Typhoon Haiyan

Google launched several crisis tools for those affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan which has ravaged towns and villages across central Philippines, leaving a suspected 10,000 people dead in just one city and more than 600,000 displaced. Over the weekend, it weakened to a severe tropical storm and hit northern Vietnam.


Typhoon Yolanda Tracing Services

In the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the Philippine Red Cross has established Welfare Desks which includes RFL (Restoring Family Links) and Tracing Services. Those who haven't heard of any news from their loved ones in the Philippines may click here.



WAYS TO HELP THE RELIEF EFFORTS:

The Tzu Chi Foundation

The Tzu Chi Foundation has begun relief effort for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. To help, please make checks payable to "Tzu Chi" and write "Disaster Fund" on the memo line. The address of their San Franscico Bay Area headquarters is 2355 Oakland road, San Jose, CA 95131. Telephone number is (408) 457-6969. Questions may be directed to the bay area Tzu Chi office, via email to info@us.tzuchi.org, or to the donor hotline: (888) 989-8244 (9am-6pm PST).


Philippine Red Cross

With the help of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Philippine Red Cross has sent first responders to the hardest hit areas. Donate now to the Typhoon Yolanda campaign.


SF Gives Back

Mayor Edwin Lee's statement on typhoon recovery efforts:

"Our hearts go out to all of those who have suffered in the Philippines from possibly the world's strongest storm. The people of the Philippines are in our thoughts and prayers today, and we will continue to support them in the days and months ahead as we learn the true impact caused by Typhoon Haiyan.

San Francisco stands ready to aid in the rebuilding and recovery efforts. The work of rebuilding communities begins immediately, and San Francisco understands how important a sustained, vigorous recovery effort is. Our City stands ready with the Bay Area Filipino-American community to assist today and into the future to help in the rebuilding efforts in the Philippines."

Mayor Lee is encouraging residents to donate money in this time of need to help those affected by the aftermath of this storm. Residents can go to www.sfgivesback.org to get information about how to give to those on the ground and aiding in the recovery efforts. Mayor Lee also encourages San Franciscans to be prepared here at home with an emergency plan and disaster supply kits, and urges all Bay Area residents to visit www.72hours.org or call 311 to learn more about how to best be prepared.


Project Pearls

Join Project PEARLS' San Francisco Bay Area volunteers in an effort to prepare for Typhoon Haiyan disaster relief. They are collecting SURVIVAL items such as canned goods, dry noodles, rice, baby formula, baby food, toothbrush, toothpaste, bath soap, shampoo & medicines to send to the affected area and families in need. They are NOT accepting CLOTHES at this time.


National Alliance for Filipino Concerns

The National Alliance for Filipino Concerns helps victims of Philippine calamities.


Save Mart, Lucky, FoodMaxx, Maxx Value and S-Mart shoppers can donate to the Red Cross' typhoon relief efforts at checkout

The Save Mart family of stores is making it easy for shoppers to donate to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines by collecting donations for the American Red Cross right at check out. All donations collected in the Save Mart family of stores will be given directly to the American Red Cross for their use in the recovery efforts in the Philippines. Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves is asking his community to donate to: ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor), Catholic-based, they work with ABS-CBN Foundation on various relief efforts. UNICEF

UNICEF says up to 4 million children could be affected by Haiyan and therapeutic food for children, health kits, water and hygiene kits have been mobilized within the country.


The United Nations World Food Programme

The United Nations World Food Programme is ramping up its operation in the Philippines, delivering food and water to those in need.


Medecins Sans Frontieres, Doctors Without Borders

MSF is sending 200 tons of medical and relief supplies to the Philippines.


International Medical Corps

The International Medical Corps has a team on the ground delivering life-saving medical supplies.

Philippine Consulate General Mass

The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco invites you to join the community in a concelebrated Holy Mass dedicated to the victims and survivors of Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan, the Earthquake that struck the Visayasand for the ongoing rescue and relief operations. A briefing by the Philippine Consulate General will follow the mass.
