Meetings of the Conference of the Contracting Parties
Ordinary meetings of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COPs) are convened, in principle, every three years (Article 6.1 of the treaty). Extraordinary meetings can be convened at the request of two-thirds of the Parties. The Heiligenhafen, West Germany, conference in 1974 was intended to be COP1 but the Convention had not yet come into force by that time.
Typically, documents from the meetings of the Conference of the Parties include the official Report of the COP, and the decisions (Resolutions and Recommendations) adopted by the COP, with in addition, for the more recent meetings, reports and information briefings prepared in advance of the COP, participants lists, photographs, and other additional, Ramsar Award winners, and other related materials.
