Morgan Finlay

Singer-songwriter Morgan Finlay is a Canadian-born, but globally minded musician, with an impressive history of touching the minds and souls of fans from many places. With a voice that has been compared to those of Bruce Cockburn and Jeff Buckley, Finlay’s sound is complex, passionate and reinforced by poetically strong lyrics.

An independent artist who holds a deep respect for his fan base, Finlay’s music has been described as “…impossible to stop listening to” (Jody Andruszkiewicz, Conestoga Students Inc.), and his last album 'Shifting Through The Breakers' was reviewed as “...a record you can listen to any hour of the day, and enjoy again and again without getting tired.” (Fabian Hauck, Legacy). Of his live performance; “His style is enthusiastic with a strong, unmistakable voice. In all, he is a very talented musician with emotional lyrics and... a classical singer-songwriter attitude” (Georg Sonksen, Mausefalle/Bonn).

With his coming release 'Latitude', slated for January 2012, Finlay rises to a new place with his music, his world and his presence in it. Written over the last four years, this collection of songs takes higher ground on the strength of the songwriting and the performances, from guitarist Dean Drouillard (Sarah Harmer, Royal Wood), cellist Mike Olsen (Arcade Fire, Hidden Cameras), bassist Marlow Holder (Kinnie Starr, Zubot & Dawson), drummer Brendan Hamley (David Celia, Anton Barbeau), and accordionist Katheryn Petersen.

In the process of creating 'Latitude', Finlay engaged his fan base more than ever before; first asking them to select the songs for the album, he then invited fans to create an original video to accompany their favourite songs from the 13-track album, and finally he launched a campaign with IndieGoGo.com, a fan-based funding platform, to raise money to pay for the production of the album, and a subsequent European tour. His fanbase responded, and funded 'Latitude' beyond even its goal to make the album and a spring tour a reality.

An advocate for the environment, Finlay’s 'Latitude' will be released directly to digital download on CDBaby, iTunes, Bandcamp and more; fans will be able to separately purchase a 50-page booklet of images by Dominik Dunsch, lyrics and credits.

Morgan Finlay is endorsed by Seagull Guitars and Dayton Boots, and uses D’Addario Strings.
