About Oldham

The borough of Oldham includes the town of Oldham itself as well as the nearby towns and villages of Chadderton, Failsworth, Royton, Shaw, Lees, Werneth and Saddleworth. Its administrative centre is in Oldham and it stretches from the urban areas of Failsworth, a few miles from Manchester city centre, to the semi-rural landscapes of Saddleworth to the east. It has a well-regarded repertory theatre in the Oldham Coliseum as well as professional football and rugby league teams - Oldham Athletic and Oldham Roughyeds. Scientist Dr Brian Cox was born and educated in Oldham and other famous sons and daughters include the late Eric Sykes, cricketer and broadcaster Mike Atherton, Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw, footballers David Platt and Paul Scholes and the artist Helen Bradley.
