Harpurhey was once named the most-deprived neighbourhood in England but has recently seen significant investment in its district centre and through the new Manchester Communication Academy - one of the city's largest schools. It was the birthplace of 'A Clockwork Orange' author Anthony Burgess and is also the home of late comic Bernard Manning's 'World Famous Embassy Club'.
