Exclusive: Lionsgate Is Actively Developing Next 'Saw'

The game isn’t over until Jigsaw says it’s over…

While there’s nothing official on paper, nor a direction set in stone, Lionsgate is incredibly active in developing an eighth Saw, based on the franchise created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, sources tell Bloody Disgusting exclusively.

The last time we saw Jigsaw in action was in the 2010 Saw 3D.

After a three year break, Lionsgate is back to their torturous ways and seeking a new direction for the franchise that took over Halloween for nearly a decade. Since its exit, Paranormal Activity has become the reigning champion of the month of October (sans this year).

There appears to be no rush on Lionsgate’s part as they’re seeking the perfect take to move forward. There were rumblings of a remake, while many insiders tell us they want to continue with Saw 8.

When something more solid comes into fruition, we’ll report back.

I have mixed feelings about this. I enjoyed the first 2 but I found it losts its depth afterwards.

You know what was great about the first Saw, it was original. Has Lionsgate become so bereft of the creativity that launched films like Saw that we have to dig up a dead horse and whip it some more? I’m out on this one.

      Ah… a bright moment in a dreary notion. Good call… here’s hoping.

I am glad .. now I will agree I think Saw had lost its direction with Saw 7. (Please no 3D this time). But there was a lot to cover in wrapping up the series, but setting up to continue with the new apprectice. So a short break really was needed.

Now we can have Elwes and include flashbacks to connect the dots with Gordon, much like they did in the original. I know the films are more or less similar although for 7 films in as many years I think they are a more consistent series than say (Friday the 13th or even Nightmare on Elm St.). Even the weakest entry #7 (some would argue #5) I never felt there was such an insane dip in quality than say post 6 Friday.. or Elm St. 5-6 after 3 and 4.

So the break and starting up is a good thing. I know I’ll be there. Hell its much better than watching boring things crash home movies every Halloween.

im ready for it. yes after the first 3 it went slowly downhill but the story that ties it all together is soo great. i wonder were lionsgate would take it. bring back tobin bell forsure.

I’m honestly glad that they’re finally making another Saw. The franchise is great and the storyline is both compelling and very edgy. I did disagree with the 3D for the Saw 7, but other than that, it was utterly a brilliant way to pause the series for a while. Especially since Cary Elwes’ Doctor Gordon came back in a triumphant return, hinting at a new set of apprentices. So this should be interesting.

Maybe they’ll make it so this Saw will both reinvent the franchise and both start a new set of films to go off of, and still live up to the expectations as an 8th film in the franchise so far. Who knows…

Please, just don’t do a remake. The game is pretty much over, what else is there even to do?

LMFAO I knew it wasn;t over. I have to admit I really dug seeing saw every year. But some of them were crappy. I want them to go back made it scary and different and breathe new life into it again.

I’m all up for a continuation as long as they kill off Hoffman at the start [and don't leave his story so they can bring him back for Part 9 or 10 lol], bring back Amanda & Jigsaw, & bring something fresh and new to the table. Saw 7 was such a let down in many ways that even if it they did one more sequel to end the story totally, i’m up for it.

Saw 6 was the only worthwhile saw that came after the fantastic Saw 3. Saw 6 is one of the best, but Saw 3D was just a unsatisfying poorly acted rushed let down. There’s no way HOFFMAN is dead, he can’t be. I want to see him escape the bathroom and get his revenge on the Dr. ;)

Saw 6 was BRILLIANT. It was a masterpiece compared to the “finale” which was probably one of the weakest of the entire series. I’d be totally happy if we could go back to the awesomeness of 6 and carry on from there.

      “after the fantastic Saw 3″

I agree! Saw III is still my favorite Saw film in the series, and Shawnee Smith was superb as Amanda, easily her best performance in the series, IMO.

    Please………..no.

Usually, I’m one in the group, who bitch and moan about a horror remake or reboot for a series, but for the love of all things holy, Saw NEEDS a reboot. Yeah, Dr. Gordon is a more promising apprentice than Hoffman (who bored the shit out of me in Saw 5, 6, & 7, especially Saw 5), but where are they gonna with the story now?

At this point, the story is a mess of shit, and I have no interest in watching another Saw film that’s 50% flashbacks of Jigsaw, Jill, Amanda, HOffman, etc. and the other 50% is a nonsensical & shitty story with a bunch of forgettable characters, tossed into a meat grinder one by one.
