Bruce Brown, 16-year-old honor student and junior at John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minn. who won his first state diving title as eighth-grader, captured his fourth straight state diving title, still has one year of eligibility remaining.

Penny Straw, sophomore at Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, N.C. who earned place on Pfeiffer's previously all-male tennis team, lost matches against boys from Davidson and Erskine but scored 6-3, 6-1 victory against Belmont Abbey's Bennie Hirsch.

Bill Hefter, 5-foot-10, 140-pound Piedmont ( Calif.) High School senior, ran 100 yards in 9.7 against El Cerrito H.S., three days later ran the 100 yards in 9.6 against Acalanes H.S. (compared to the national interscholastic mark of 9.4).

Joy Foster, pig-tailed 12-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica, won girls' (15 and under) singles title in U.S. Open Table Tennis championships at Detroit, added midget (13 and under) girls' title, lost in junior miss (18 and under) championship finals.

Mike Woods, 15, of Prairie Village, Kans., left-hander with first baseman's ambitions, was chosen from 800 candidates as Kansas City Athletics 1961 bat boy after writing best letter explaining why he wanted job, given $1,000 college scholarship.

Floyd Wilson, Harvard University basketball coach, accepted fifth annual Sam Schoenfeld Sportsmanship Award for Harvard from Collegiate Basketball Officials Association, heard his team praised "for highest degree of sportsmanship and ethics."
