I need to apologise before you start reading this post. It is neither about Linux, nor about Linux-run application. It is about software I use on my work laptop, which unfortunately has to be Windows-based. Although, the article relates to FOSS-world too.

Why Not ‘Click to Play’ Flash?

This has the look and smell of a business play all the way through, although that might not be immediately evident when reading what ad giant Google and open source Mozilla have to say. At first glance, their reasoning makes sense. Flash is just too darn ubiquitous. It’s everywhere; buried in everything. Including Flash in “click to play” would put too much of a burden on the user.

Michael Coates, Director of Security Assurance at Mozilla explains how the security process works at the open source browser vendor. -

The Death of the Browser Plugin is a Good Thing

“Click to play” means that every time a webpage wants to take advantage of a plugin, the user will have to click to give it permission. Eventually, Google hopes to replace the old architecture with PPAPI or the Pepper Plugin API, which supposedly fixes a lot of NPAPI’s problems, if they can get traction outside of Google which doesn’t seem likely at this juncture. The folks at Mozilla have already said, “Mozilla is not interested in or working on Pepper at this time.” That sounds like a “no” to me.

Developers: Give us sane and sensible default system and application settings

I often wonder why Linux desktops are the way they are. You know, why stuff that’s supposed to work out of the box, don’t and why some of the better features of the desktop environments and applications are buried or not enabled by default. I could go on and on about default settings like these, but I think the point I’m trying to make is clear. If a feature that has the potential to make a system better is not enabled out of the box, to most users, especially new users, it might as well not exist.

We are especially keen on Froman’s feigned concern for the proposed ban’s “effect on U.S. consumers.” Evidently studies have been done that have proved that the American psyche would be irrevocably damaged if we couldn’t buy old, outdated versions of Apple products. Oh, did we forget to tell you that this ban is on Apple devices that are all at least a year old?

We designed Mozilla Japan’s new office, MOZILLA FACTORY, based on the idea of Open Source. It enable everyone to be able to use that software and participate in improving. This movement has made it possible software is continually being improved, and develop high-quality software on a budget. This office constructed by the common product, such as corner module or plastic pallet. Therefore, our design might also be able to call the “open source furniture”so to speak. Because general products used and all drawings uploaded to the web, it is possible for everyone to make these functional office furnitures inexpensively.
