Critic Reviews for Sons of Anarchy: Season 6
I stopped taking "Sons of Anarchy" seriously a couple of seasons ago. There's just too much heartache -- and too many headaches.
The series remains an immersive experience, and the cast has been gradually upgraded with the addition of players like Jimmy Smits and now CCH Pounder.
Sons is on track to stand among the best TV shows of our current golden age, and we have two more seasons to watch it get there.
I've quit watching FX's Sons of Anarchy more than once, mostly because I can give only so much head space to the violence that permeates the motorcycle-gang drama.
There's too much meandering without meaningful payoffs.
The acting is first-rate, and so is the writing, but the violence is appalling, and not just appalling, but creatively appalling.
Sons' occasional bouts of tastelessness are part of the show's strengths, because in its best moments, we see people go through the absolute worst and come out the other side-maybe not happy or healthy, exactly, but they survive.
SOA always wrenches great comedy from gross-out violence, and Logue masters that art, killing innocents with slapstick timing and using his enemies' teeth to crack open beer bottles.
Overall, it was a strong start to the new season and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of it unfold.
The show doesn't only deliver fast-paced action and fine performances, but also, increasingly, poses questions concerning responsibility.
Season 6 gets off to a roaring start and continues to deliver.
The contrast of violence and goodness is what makes [Jax] compelling.
The episode also works as a perfect example of well-executed Golden Age television.
It's ultimately a solid opener though as some very interesting seeds were planted for the episodes to come.
This episode of Sons of Anarchy put everyone in a position to seek redemption, the only question is, where will they start?
Kudos must be given to Kurt Sutter and the Sons of Anarchy writers for creating such a powerful side story in a very short period of time.
