As both thrilling spectacle and escapist summer entertainment, World War Z is enormously effective, with Brad Pitt at the center hopscotching the globe in search of the origin of a zombie apocalypse.

Pitt conducts himself manfully throughout the proceedings -- he is never less than believable while facing off against this pandemic -- but if I never see another zombie in the movies, I will not feel deprived.

As compelling as Pitt is at reflecting the world's pain through Lane's eyes, the movie treats him too often as if he truly is the only one with loved ones to lose or a world to save.

World War Z opens with an undeniable bang. But if this is the way the world ends, we're going out with a whimper.

Despite some conventional passages and a soft ending, Forster and Brad Pitt, who is a producer of the film as well as its star, pulled the picture together. They also managed to reawaken in a large-scale movie the experience of shock.

Despite all appearances, World War Z isn't really a zombie movie. It's a disaster movie, one in which the agent of apocalypse just happens to be walking (and running) human corpses, rather than glaciers or a meteor strike.

World War Z is a surprisingly entertaining, yet slightly generic zombie picture that shows promising scope and globe-trotting action, but suffers from too many genre cliches.

I always hate the shaky camera style but I think Marc Forster is better at it than Paul Greengrass. It's his editing... I guess I just speak Forster.

Audience Reviews for World War Z

It noticeably strays away from the adapted-novel's premise, which would probably lose a portion of the audience who praise it. However, thanks to the film's stylish direction and visually enthralling sequences, it still makes for a pretty good summer blockbuster. World War Z starts quick and is able to captivate even with a convincing performance from Brad Pitt. 3.5/5

Marc Forster fills the world with zombies in World War Z.Moving from location to location and filling nearly 110 minutes of screen time, the concept of the story definitely has its moment of intrigue. On the other hand, the execution falls short of greatness. It lacks the intensity and thrills expected in a film with millions of zombies. While the hordes of zombies is an amusing watch, the CG is only good, not great; however, when makeup is applied to a human actor, the zombie visual is enhanced tremendously. The film is all Brad Pitt with supporting characters popping in and out as the story changes locations, which leaves a lot of them underdeveloped and forgettable along the way. Nonetheless, Pitt keeps the film afloat as needed. With the way World War Z plays out, the title makes this picture sound bigger than it really is. Recommendable, but not highly.

An unforgettable and highly addictive roller-coaster ride. A killer thrill-machine of heart-stopping tension, break-neck suspense and pulse-pounding action from start to finish. It starts off fast and never lets up, it keeps your attention and your adrenaline pumped all the way through. It's a spectacular, mind-blowing and heart-pounding epic. One of the most outstanding and triumphant action epics in years. It delivers a solid mixture of action and horror. It delivers intense,y big scares and even bigger action. A full-throttle and eye-popping movie that's filled with energy and intelligence that makes for thrilling spectacle and pure escapism fun. A grown-ups zombie apocalypse film that's engaging and wickedly entertaining. Director, Marc Foster crafts an exhilarating and explosive piece of pure brilliance that's a must-see on any level. Brad Pitt is sensational, he delves deep into his characters emotions and into a over abused genre and makes it feel new and fresh again. This is one hell of a terrific movie.
