Audience Reviews for Free Birds
Turkey is the designated food for Thanksgiving. While most turkeys are oblivious to it, Reggie (Owen Wilson) is not your typical turkey. Reggie is fully aware of the fate of his flock and wants nothing more than to avoid that fate. So when he is chosen as the "pardoned" turkey by the President he thinks he is in paradise. His paradise is interrupted when Jake (Woody Harrelson) abducts Reggie because he needs him to change things and get turkey off the holiday menu for good. To do this the two must go back in time to the first Thanksgiving. Do they succeed? And what replaces turkey on the holiday menu? Also starring the voices of Amy Poehler, George Takei, Colm Meaney, Keith David, Dan Fogler, Jimmy Hayward, Kaitlyn Maher, Carlos Alazraqui, Jeff Biancalana, Danny Carey, Carlos Ponce.
Directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who), Free Birds is a family friendly animated film that is cute but is not all that exciting or funny and doesn't offer much to impress. There is a high standard set for animated films. It is a fairly high bar they have to reach so it isn't surprising that so many fall short. Free Birds sadly doesn't even come close to animated goodness. The actual animation is standard so the film earns no points there. The story is fairly innovative but as it plays out there is nothing super exciting to fill it out. The voice talent is decent. The surprise there was the voice of George Takei popping is as S.T.E.V.E. Actually that was probably the best part of the whole film for a Star Trek fan like me. Honestly there isn't a lot to review on Free Birds. The movie isn't bad but it wasn't fun either. Just a middle of the road animation that will be forgotten quickly for better or worse.
6/10 Stars - Not even the cute baby turkeys won me over to give this a better star rating!
