Your entire MerMuggle team is gathering together this week to read aloud the submissions from our annual Halloween Drabble Contest. Congratulations to minnabird, whose story was selected as the best entry and who will be receiving a costume prize pack from buycostumes.com! The MerMuggles are also reading the runner-up story from the opaleye, with added sound effects for maximum Halloween atmosphere. As these brand new tales unfold, Harry, Ron and Hermione come face to face with a troll on Halloween night! But this time, we get the story from another trio’s point of view.

MuggleNet previously reported that the USPS had issued a postal bulletin that referenced the release of a new Limited Edition Harry Potter 46 cent Stamp later this year. MuggleNet has now received a rumored report ahead of the scheduled Media Alert that the stamp will be released on Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 at 10:00am EST.

This will be a First Day of Issuance Ceremony for the U.S. Postal Service and the event will take place in Orlando, Florida.

Once again, there are no images available for the stamp, but we will update this news item when one becomes available. We are still speculating that the postal stamp image will have a Christmas feel to it, like the Great Hall with its giant Christmas trees, or perhaps Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the snow. What do you think the image will be? Let us know in the comments below.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR FANS!

Earlier this evening, it was revealed on a live broadcast by Podcast Awards creator Todd Cochrane, that our family of podcasts earned nominations for the 2013 9th Annual Podcast Awards.

Alohomora! won their nominations in People's Choice and Entertainment:

Our global book club (or "reread," as we like to call it), is the only Harry Potter podcast that features fans on every single weekly episode, not only by reading comments and playing voicemail but also as a GUEST HOST. Yes, that's right. You, too, can be on a MuggleNet podcast.

Hogwarts Radio won its nomination for Best Produced podcast:

This show is our newest addition to the MuggleNet family but it is NOT a new show. The show has been around since 2008 and was first associated with now defunct HPANA. It has over 120 episodes, fun hosts, and wildly entertaining segments.

And MuggleNet Academia won its nomination for Education category:

hosted by Keith Hawk & Hogwarts Professor John Granger, takes a look "through the entire Harry Potter series for various elements in alchemy, literary components, composition attributes, as well as available classes at Universities and Colleges around the world, and various unique studies that are being implemented today."

When the voting opens on November 1st, we ask for your continued support as we would love to have you vote every day for all of our shows. We put a lot of work into these shows to keep the magic of Harry Potter alive and we are honored to represent the fans in these awards!

Cheers!

This week, Lord Voldemort travels to the resting place of his former adversary and robs the tomb there of its newly revealed contents. What might it be, and what might he use it for? You tell us! You write the caption!

Simply head over to the MuggleNet Caption Contest main page, and click "CC Entry Form" to submit your caption for this week. While there, you can also view ANY past caption from 300+ weeks of the caption contest's history via the archive. Happy captioning!

You could say that JK Rowling wears many hats, most notably as an a writer but also as a mother of three and founder of the charity Lumos. In a brand new interview with Geordie Greig, JK Rowling discusses each of these hats and how they relate to one another.

The main focus of the interview is Lumos, which “works in partnership with governments, professionals and carers, communities, families and children, to transform outdated systems that drive families apart,” and the incredible work it is doing in countries around the world.

In Europe’s poorest country, Moldova, the number of children living in institutions has dropped by a whopping 63 percent because of Lumos’s work, in addition to helping close one third of "workhouse" institutions.

JK Rowling says, “We have named the charity after the life-giving spell in Harry Potter, and I am comfortable with that.

She also shares heart-wrenching stories from her travels to countries, including the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova, to see Lumos's work firsthand.

JK Rowling compares these situations to the very rough financial times she faced pre-Potter and the worries she felt even once the money began to come in, stating, “I was terrified of pressing the wrong button and losing everything and having to look my daughter in the face and say, 'We briefly had a house and now through a stupid error…'"

To learn more about the amazing changes Lumos is making, be sure to visit their website. We look forward to hearing about Lumos’s further progress toward this worthy cause.
