Note that SolusOS 2 is being actively developed, and we haven't got the time to update random external facing pages right now. So if you have a question, please just ask it, and do not assume! :)
SolusOS 2 has been created from scratch (for those seeking to use an absolute literal interpretation of this phrase then please check the About page on solusos.com) with the exact same goals as SolusOS 1. However, while we maintained SolusOS 1 for some time on the Debian Squeeze base, keeping the system stable and up to date became a hard task, with the maintanence growing to a point that made no sense for a *derivative distribution*. At the last count we maintained 7k packages (build count, not source count) on top of the Debian Squeeze base (contrary to popular belief not many packages from Debian Backports got used, and we considered blocking them entirely at one stage).
So with such a high workload, and no real results for myself, the founder, I decided to take the from scratch route. The goal here is to bring all the benefits of our previous incarnation, "lightweight", "fast", "multimedia friendly", and couple them with our own mostly vanilla software repository, using a package manager appropriate to the needs of both the users and the developers of the distribution.
