Avoid losing your photos, videos, music and documents by backing up
World Backup Day 2013 has arrived for its third anniversary so will you backup and avoid losing your precious files?
What originated from comments on Reddit is now global 'holiday' called World Backup Day. The idea behind the campaign is to encourage users to backup data to prevent losing valuable data such as photos, movies and music. See also: How to backup your PC and laptop.
Placed the day before April fool's day, the tag line of World Backup Day is "Don't be an April fool. Backup your files. Check your restores." Those interested can visit www.worldbackupday.com for more information and to take a pledge.

The organisation recommends that users backup data stored on PCs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, cameras and mp3 players. Common ways of losing data include theft, hardware failure, natural disaster, obsolete file formats and accidental loss.
Suggested ways to backup files like photos, music, videos and documents include local backup such as an external hard drive or NAS drive, online (aka cloud) or offsite backup such as Dropbox and SugarSync. Many cloud services are free andiIf you want to be extra secure, you should use both options.
