LG Dual Play provides simultaneous full-screen gaming

Two-player mode goes fullscreen

One of the simplest but nonetheless impressive ideas on show at IFA last week was LG’s Dual Play mode for gamers. Available on any of its 3D displays, Dual Play provides a fullscreen gaming experience to two gamers competing against each other. This means that in contrast to most two-player modes, where each participant plays on half the screen, each can play across the entire screen.

While the idea sounds takes a while to digest, it actually works using existing 3D glasses technology. Rather than each player donning 3D glasses that deliver separate information to their left and right eyes, creating the illusion of a 3D environment, one player wears glasses with two red filters and the other glasses with two green filters. Each player thereby enjoys fullscreen gameplay but in 2D rather than 3D.

LG provides five pairs of passive shutter 3D glasses with its 3D TVs, so it wouldn’t be much sacrifice to pop out a lens from one pair and switch them for the opposite colour in another, an LG spokesman told PC Advisor. Alternatively, the passive glasses can be bought specifically for Dual Play.
