Apple seems to have accidentally leaked redesigned icons for its iWork and iLife suites on its website, adding evidence to the rumours that iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Numbers, Keynote and Pages updates will be shown off at Apple's special event on 22 October.
iOS 7-esque app icons for iMovie, Numbers, Keynote and Pages appeared on Apple's website over the weekend, joined by the iPhoto and GarageBand icons that had already been spotted last week in iOS 7's settings. The icons were quickly reverted back to the iOS 6 icons, but not before eagle-eyed Apple watchers spotted them.
The new icons on Apple's Built-in Apps page for the iPhone 5s were spotted by Mac Rumors on Sunday. They sport the flatter, more minimalist design that's seen throughout Apple's iOS 7.
In addition to the updated icons, there was also a footnote that revealed that GarageBand would become a free download for all iOS 7 devices, joining iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which became free to download on new devices when iOS 7 rolled out in September.
The footnote noted that GarageBand won't be completely free, however. It will have optional in-app purchases available should users want additional instruments or sounds.
Plus, Apple also added links beneath each of the iWork and iLife icons, inviting readers to find out more about that particular application. Those links were not yet live, suggesting that Apple is about to launch new versions of the applications.
It was noted last month that Apple's paid apps, including the iLife and iWork suites, hadn't received an icon redesign with the launch of iOS 7. They're among the only Apple apps to still have their old, skeuomorphic designs that don't fit well with iOS 7's new minimalist look.
Apple hasn't updated iLife (GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie) since 2011, and hasn't updated iWork (Keynote, Numbers, Pages) since 2009, so they're definitely due an update.
