Organ Trail, Broken Sword, Anomaly Korea take a stab at Humble Bundle

Wonderfully predictable Humble Bundle has added three new games to the Humble Bundle with Android 7: Anomaly Korea from 11-Bit Studios, Broken Sword: Director's Cut from Revolution Software and Organ Trail: Director's Cut from The Men Who Wear Many Hats. Plus, this round adds Europe DLC for Ticket to Ride, a game already included in the Humble Bundle. Get these newbies by paying more than the average price.

Humble Bundle with Android 7 includes Incredipede, Anodyne, Greed Corp and Ticket to Ride (plus USA 1910 DLC) for whatever price you want, with Worms Reloaded and The Bard's Tale thrown in by paying more than the average. All games are available on PC, Mac, Linux and Android, and paying more than $1 grabs Steam keys as well.

Whatever you decide to pay, it can all go to a good cause, or to the developers themselves, or to Humble Bundle.

Terraria 2 planned for mobile close to PC launch, not for 3DS

Terraria creator Andrew Spinks has plans to bring the RPG's sequel to multiple plaforms close to the release of the PC game. Spinks told Pocket Gamer he wants "to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so it can be released on multiple platforms at launch or close to launch."

One platform the game won't appear on is Nintendo's 3DS, though. "3DS is something I was very interested in getting Terraria on but the system unfortunately cannot run Terraria the way it needs to be ran," he added. Spinks discussed his plans for Terraria 2 earlier this month, saying that while the game is not yet in development, he would like for it to feature "infinite worlds" for players to travel between.

The original game is expected to be updated further, with its version 1.2 patch arriving at the beginning of October, though the developer said he has considered bringing a small team in to offer support for Terraria while he moves on to Terraria 2.

Remastered Sonic The Hedgehog 2 revs up Sega's winter mobile lineup

Sega announced its winter lineup for mobile platforms, revealing that it has a remastered version of its classic 16-bit platformer Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the works for iOS and Android.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will launch in the iOS App Store and for Google Play in November, boasting an array of improvements over its previously released mobile port. Similar to the upgraded mobile version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog released earlier this year, Sonic 2 will feature widescreen support, multiple playable characters, and a soundtrack featuring higher-quality sound samples than the original game.

Sega additionally announced the upcoming release of Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper, a mobile follow-up to its 2012 3DS rhythm-action game Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure. Other Sega-published mobile games on the horizon include a port of Sumo Digital's kart racer Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the iOS motion-captured dancing game Go Dance, and Demon Tribe, a MOBA-style, card-collecting RPG from Jet Set Radio director Masayoshi Kikuchi.

Toki Tori 2 stomps on plans for iOS port

Two Tribes will not release Toki Tori 2 on iOS.

In response to a fan question on Twitter, Two Tribes said there will be no iOS port, stating "the game would not work well enough with touch controls." The IOS port is something Two Tribes had initially planned since last year.

Toki Tori 2, a charming platform-adventure game about a whistling, stomping chick of inescapable cuteness, is a sequel over a decade in the planning. In our review, we said that while "the occasional frustration may grate," Toki Tori 2 has a "charming simplicity that will always pull you back in."

'High-end' Battlefield coming to mobile, Gibeau says

'Highend' mobile Battlefield game on the way
EA Labels president Frank Gibeau has discussed an upcoming "high-end and high performance" Battlefield game designed for mobile devices.

In an interview with the New York Times, Gibeau was asked if Battlefield could potentially be enjoyed on the smaller screen of a mobile device. Gibeau noted that the game's Commander Mode lends itself very well to a tablet screen, then said, "We are working on a mobile game of Battlefield that will be high-end and high-performance."

"It's our bet that we can successfully pull that off. But we're embarking on something no one has ever done before - to get these games to inter-operate between platforms. Will it work? It already has in some cases. Will it work for all franchises? Not all franchises will make the transition."

"Battlefield might be a little harder," Gibeau added.

News of a high-end, mobile Battlefield game is novel but not entirely surprising. In May we reported on EA's Frostbite Go engine, which would allow for console-esque graphical fidelity on comparatively underpowered mobile devices. Frostbite Go is a slimmed-down adaptation of the same Frostbite engine which currently powers the Battlefield franchise.

Sorcery! Part 2 to weave its tale in November, Part 1 gets update

Sorcery Part 2 hitting iOS in November
The second installment of Sorcery!, the choose-your-own-adventure collaboration between developer Inkle and Fighting Fantasy co-creator Steve Jackson, will continue its battle-savvy story on the App Store this November. The game's introduction has also been granted an update in preparation for the incoming continuation.

Part 2, also referred to as Khare: Cityport of Traps, will "double the narrative content of the first game," introduce "new enemy types, more complex story branches" and add other "gameplay enhancements," the related press release states.

Part 2 can be played on its own, but this week's update to Part 1 will allow saves to be implemented into Part 2 in November. The update also introduced the option of leading a female protagonist through the quest, as well as a "3D spellcasting system" to replace the initial spellbook.

Carmack: New Oculus Rift dev kit coming, retail model will 'probably' run on Android

Oculus Rift's recently recruited Chief Technology Officer John Carmack confirmed that a new dev kit for the company's augmented reality headset will be available before the hardware launches at retail next year.

Speaking with Engadget, Carmack additionally revealed that the retail Oculus Rift unit will likely run on an Android-powered operating system, easing its development process. "The way I believe it's going to play out is you will eventually have a head-mounted display that probably runs Android, as a standalone system, that has a system-on-a-chip that's basically like what you have in mobile phones," Carmack said.

Several in-development projects have added official support for the Oculus Rift over the last several months, and early adopters have successfully added Rift functionality to a number of existing games using the VorpX and TriDef drivers. The Oculus Rift secured $16 million in investor funding earlier this year, following up on its successful Kicksarter campaign.

For everyone staying in this console generation, though, there's some cool stuff going on if you think leaving the house on Black Friday is worth it. You can have your choice of 250-gig PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 for $199.99, the former bundled with The Last of Us and Batman: Arkham Origins, and the latter bundled with Halo 4 and a download code for Tomb Raider. Meanwhile, a Gamestop-exclusive Azure Blue 250-gig PS3/Jak and Daxter Collection bundle can be had for $249.99.

For 360 owners, there's also a Gamestop-exclusive Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City boxed set, Dishonored and Splinter Cell: Blacklist at $24.99 each. PlayStation 3 owners can snag Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag for $40 and a year of PlayStation Plus for $29.99.

The chain is also running a buy-2-get-1 free promotion on all pre-owned items, provided the free thing you pick out is of equal or lesser value. Gamestop is also granting an additional 30-percent in-store credit on all trade-ins, though whether these two offers stack is unknown.

Zynga co-founder Justin Waldron strikes out on his own again

Zynga, formed in 2007, lost one of its eight co-founders today. In a post on Facebook, Justin Waldron says he'll once again pursue personal projects.

"It's incredibly humbling to have worked with such a talented team. I am grateful to have had the chance to help build a company that touched so many people," Waldron writes. "Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it- both in the trenches and for playing the games."

It's been a tumultuous few months for Zynga. The San Francisco-based mobile and casual games publisher closed several studios in June, then brought on former Microsoft executive Don Mattrick as new CEO. Mattrick's addition didn't quell the departures, as more executives left Zynga in July, followed by additional executive exits in August.

Aussie rebels steal secret plans for Star Wars: Tiny Death Star

Star Wars: Tiny Death Star has snuck onto the Australian App store and onto Australia's Google Play store. That's no small feat considering how imposing even the tiniest that's-no-moon must be.

Star Wars: Tiny Death Star is a variant of NimbleBit's property management game, Tiny Tower. Players must construct levels with the world destroyer and help usher the Death Star into a prosperous future of intimidating the rebellion. The game is due to hit iOS and Android in North America sometime soon.

Worms 3 adds Terraria content, sheds 80 percent of its price

Worms 3 update digs up Terraria items, sheds 80 percent of its price
Your squad of murderous annelids just got a bit more pixelated with the introduction of new, Terraria-themed content to Worms 3.

Available now as a free update, this new content includes six new hats drawn from the Terraria item bank, as well as "5 Terraria themed gravestones and a Terraria speechbank." The additions also include 11 Halloween-themed customization items and a handful of bug fixes said to improve the game's asynchronous multiplayer as well as its overall performance.

Today's best news however, is that to celebrate this update developer Team 17 has reduced the price of the iOS-exclusive Worms 3 to 99 cents - 80 percent less than its usual $5 price point. This new, lower price will only be available for a limited time. Those interested in Worms 3 can find full details on the App Store.

Have an early knight with Batman: Arkham Origins iOS brawler, out now

NetherRealm's Batman Arkham Origins iOS brawler out now
Injustice dev NetherRealm released its free-to-play companion sidekick app for Batman: Arkham Origins, and it's available now as a free download on the App Store. The iOS brawler precedes the game proper coming to PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U next week.

I suited up for a brief go this morning on my iPhone 5, and the app looks to be a mobile adaptation of the combat, albeit in one-on-one scenarios. The controls are simple enough: You tap to punch, put three taps together quickly to pull of a combo, and hold two fingers down to block. There are QTE-like swipes that appear as you put together moves, and you can switch combat stances as you deal with successive goons. Progress along and you can upgrade Batman's skills and stances, as well as unlock Batsuits, some of which are exclusive to the mobile game.

The App Store blurb also notes "cross-platform unlocks" to tempt those planning to reunite with the Dark Knight next week. On that note, check out Arkham Origins' TV commercial after the break for some full-on, hardcore Bruce Wayne staring.

Mutant Football League fails to reach crowdfunding goal line

The Kickstarter project for Mutant Football League has concluded, and was unsuccessful in reaching its lofty $750,000 goal. The campaign reached $141,821 thanks to 1,105 backers, a healthy amount for many other crowdfunding projects, but not enough to bring the football game back to life like one of its zombie characters.

Based on the Sega Genesis-era series, Mutant Football League was slated to arrive on PC via Steam, Xbox 360, PS3, iOS and Android. The original game's creator and lead for the project Michael Mendheim wrote in an update on the Kickstarter page that the team "will regroup and figure out a plan (with all of [the backers]) to move things forward and try again." Responses from the developer's closing survey to help dictate the game's direction going forward showed that backers saw the PC version as the most important among the group, and that the game would be better off featuring the overhead, top-down view players are accustomed to.

The developer broke down the costs related to bringing Mutant League Football back on the project page, noting that the $750,000 budget would include $325,000 in full-time salaries, $75,000 in Kickstarter and Amazon fees and $70,000 in business expenses such as licensing fees.

Time-traveling lumberjack-em-up Fist of Awesome is out now

Fist of Awesome is now available on iOS, Android, and Ouya, allowing you to punch bears on a variety of platforms. The eccentric beat-em-up is priced $4 on the App Store and Google Play. A GameStick version is also due, while extended versions featuring local multiplayer are bearing down on PC and Mac this winter.

The games comes courtesy of Nicoll Hunt, an ex-Realtime Worlds dev who also previously worked on iOS hit Hard Lines. Hunt's Kickstarter for Fist of Awesome was a big success last year, earning over double its £5,000 goal. Then again, a retro beat-em-up starring a time-traveling lumberjack who uppercuts bear-jaws to save the world was always a winner.

Humble Bundle with Android 7: Incredipede, Anodyne, Ticket to Ride

Humble Bundle with Android 7 includes six games (for now) and their soundtracks, available on PC, Mac, Linux and Android: Incredipede, Anodyne, Greed Corp, Ticket to Ride plus USA 1910 DLC, Worms Reloaded and The Bard's Tale.

The first four titles are available for whatever price you want, while Worms Reloaded and The Bard's Tale are unlocked by paying more than the average. This strategy also unlocks any games that are added before the bundle's time is up in two weeks – and yes, there will be more games. Grab Steam keys for each title by paying $1 or more.

Customers can allocate whatever amount they decide to pay among the developers, Humble itself or charity. It's going well so far – Incredipede developer Colin Northway notes that in the Humble Bundle's first 15 minutes, sales surpassed Incredipede's launch day numbers, and in 20 minutes it sold more than the game's first day on Steam.

Angry Birds Go! starts its engines in December

Angry Birds Go!, the mega-franchise's inevitable drift into kart racing, will be available as a "free app" on December 11. There's a range of feathered and piggy racers to choose from, as well as karts to buff up and suitably wacky powers to employ. As yet, we don't know just how many platforms ABG will wing its way onto in a couple of months' time.

What we do know is the racer will support Skylanders-like Hasbro toys called "Telepods." The toys can apparently "teleport your kart" into the game by "using the included Telepods base." First, the kart racer, then the world!

Final Fantasy 7 on mobile 'years' away

A mobile version of Final Fantasy 7 is still "years" away, according to Square Enix producer Takashi Tokita, despite the fact that the franchise's first six titles are already available for multiple mobile platforms.

Speaking with Shacknews, Tokita said that porting the 1997 fan favorite to mobile devices would be possible, but storage is a factor. "It's that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years," he said.

When Square Enix re-released Final Fantasy 7 on PC last year, the game clocked in at 3GB. In its developer guidelines, Apple notes "iOS apps can be as large as 2 GB, but the executable file cannot exceed 60MB."

In Square Enix's home region of Japan, a plethora of mobile devices have penetrated the market. According to an April 2013 feature from CNET, the Sony Xperia V was one of the most popular devices in Asian territories. By default, the device is equip with 8GB of onboard storage, though it can be expanded.

While Tonika didn't rule out the possibility of Final Fantasy 7 eventually making the jump to the mobile market, he did reiterate that if it were to happen, "it's definitely going to be years before we do the port."
