Apple iMac 27in all-in-one PC

Apple iMac 27in all-in-one PCApple has launched its largest iMac all in one PC to date: the 27in Apple iMac has already arrived at the PC Advisor Test Centre. Our first impression: "It's a colossus".

The 27in backlit LED screen with 16:9 aspect ratio conceals the most powerful iMac Apple has yet produced. The top-of-the-range model has a dual core 3.06GHz processor. Other processor options are a 2.66GHz Intel Core i5 or 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. Apple includes 4GB of RAM the standard build, but it's possible to fit up to 16GB in the iMac. The screen resolution, meanwhile, stretches to 2560x1440 pixels.

Inside, there's either a 500GB or 1TB hard drive and 256MB of 512MB of ATI Radeon or nVidia GeForce graphics.

Apple has given the new iMac line a subtle makeover, losing the black surround in favour of an edge-to-edge display. Geared up for home entertainment duties, it can accept an SD card full of photos or video and, presumably, its 802.11n wireless connectivity will make it ideal for streaming video.

For Apple fans with more modest requirements (and perhaps smaller desks), there is also a new 21.5in iMac with a resolution of 1920x1080.

Unfortunately, you'll have to pay a pretty penny for all this Mac loveliness: the base price is £949 for the 21.5in iMac with 3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive and 8x DVD rewriter, while the 27in model costs £1,599.
