Fullmetal Alchemist's Arakawa Draws Cover for Irish Novelist

Sarah Rees Brennan's debut novel, The Demon's Lexicon, ships in Japan

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Fullmetal Alchemist manga creator Hiromu Arakawa has drawn the cover for the Japanese edition of The Demon's Lexicon — the debut novel from Irish author and prolific fan-fiction writer Sarah Rees Brennan. The Demons Lexicon I: The Scion of Magicians is actually shipping in Japan now, over a month before the planned June 1 debut in the United Kingdom and the United States. The story is a dark fantasy set in modern-day England, only with magic and demons.

Brennan first gained fans under the penname "Maya" with her fan fiction based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter wizardry novels. Simon & Schuster's Margaret K. McElderry Books imprint signed Brennan to a "major" deal for three books in English.

The second television anime adaptation of the Fullmetal Alchemist dark fantasy manga premiered in Japan this month and began streaming in several countries soon after. Viz Media will publish the 18th volume of the original manga in North America next month, while Funimation is handling both Fullmetal Alchemist television anime series and the theatrical anime feature, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa.
