Viz Dominates American Graphic Novel Sales in April

Naruto, Vampire Knight, Tokyopop's Fruits Basket leads Top-20 with 18 manga

The ICv2 retail news source reports on Nielsen BookScan's graphic novel sales figures from March 31 to April 27. Viz dominated 16 of the top 20 slots, including Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto Volume 28 and Matsuri Hino's Vampire Knight Volume 4 at #1 and #2, respectively. Tokyopop placed with Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket Volume 19 at #3, and Del Rey put Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail Volume 1 at #15.

Three other Naruto volumes, two other Vampire Knight volumes, and three of Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba's Death Note volumes (Viz Media) also made the list. Other manga on the list included Hisaya Nakajo's Hana-Kimi Volume 23, Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 16, Arina Tanemura's I.O.N, Hidenori Kusaka's The Best Of Pokémon Adventures: Red, and Rinko Ueda's Tail of the Moon Volume 10. BookScan tracks sales from major bookstore chains, mass merchants, some indepedenent bookshops, and online purchases, but does not cover most comic book stores.
