News: EVE Online debuts New Player Training Sessions
Do you like spaceships? Just kidding, everyone loves spaceships. If you're also a fan of MMORPGs, for time immemorial there's only been one real contender: EVE Online. And in EVE, spaceships are serious business--the game's player base is infamous for its brutality, space lanes choked with pirates and scammers and miscellaneous curmudgeons looking to visit harm upon their neighbors. But it's also a wonderful place, a massive galaxy chock full of systems to explore, resources to harvest, war machines to build and shoot at. All good fun, but not the friendliest place for someone getting their feet wet.

News: Rough surf: Audiosurf II returns with new twists and new troubles
Audiosurf II is in desperate need of a demo, as I suspect this one will be a little polarizing. The game takes the sublime music-riding puzzle experience that has captured so much of my attention over the years and adds an entirely new game mechanic--wakeboarding. It's fantastic, converting every audio track into a points-driven series of gambles. But it's also incredibly confusing, sapping away that particular exploratory charm that made the first game so wondrously unique.

News: Hands on with the 2DS: An entry level investment
The 2DS doesn't do anything crazy: There aren't any special gimmicks or mind-blowing features that will send current handheld owners stampeding to their wallet. It's a simple device that fills a gap in the market as other companies' handheld hardware grows more complicated, more mature, and more expensive.

News: Grand Theft Auto V actors think their game is violent, and that's okay
With a record-setting three-day haul of over $1 billion in sales on launch week, Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V has put violent games on the front burner of mainstream media once again. Despite the violent nature of shooters like Call of Duty: Ghosts, Gears of War: Judgment and Halo 4, it's usually the GTA franchise that the less games-savvy public figures like to focus on as the poster child for what's wrong in society today.

News: Betting on betas: Why the early access phenomenon is risky business
I planned on chatting about Castle Story today. It's an indie game about collecting resources, building castles, and fighting stuff--ostensibly part of that nebulous "Dwarf Fortress with a UI" genre that exploded once Minecraft made gobs of cash. Like so many Kickstarter projects I've thrown money at in the last year it's nowhere near ready for prime time, instead offering backers early builds of the game to tinker with. All part of that weirdly refreshing Kickstarter-symbiosis: developers show their hand a little early, and we get to offer up feedback in exchange for putting our money where our mouth is.
