Mikako Tabe reprises rookie female detective role after 2011 live-action TV series

Deka Wanko (Detective Puppy), the current manga from Gokusen creator Kozueko Morimoto, will receive its second live-action adaptation in a New Year's television special slated to air in Japan on January 7. Mikako Tabe will return as the titular rookie female detective in the sequel to this year's live-action television series, which aired from January 15 to March 26 in Japan.

The story will take place in Paris, France after Ichiko "Wanko" Hanamori travels back in time to the Edo period (1603 - 1868) in search of a missing coworker. Deka Wanko New Year's Special was filmed in Paris from November 30 to December 5.

The original suspense drama manga follows Wanko as she solves "outlandish and (probably) real case files" with her dog-like sense of smell. Morimoto launched the manga in April of 2008, and Shueisha published the tenth compiled book on November 18.
