Lars Gustavsson talks Levelution, making environments destructible and the importance of incorporating story elements to make a truly interactive Battlefield.
I know people (including myself) ditch COD for basically doing nothing new and bringing out the same crap as the last game. But to me BF4 is poster child for such an idea. It really felt like BF3 DLC. Its really quit sad.
Why couldnt they just leave modern combat to the BC series, and BF can be used for WW2 or future combat. Love to see a WW2 game using frostbite 2.0. But...BFBC3 is coming out and yet again modern combat
The scripted skyscraper fall actually made the experience in the beta quite boring. After the first fall, the sameness of both the fall and the rubble trails made the experience lifeless and a *yawn*. Too bad. Minor gameplay tweaks made some of the game better than BF3, but not enough IMHO to buy it.
Looks great, just hope there is more Battlefield stuff in single player , was disappointed when we had to ride shotgun for the Jet Fighting mission, still enjoyed it but could have been much better, like the tank mission which was epic.
I disagree when Lars implies that a greater degree of levolution of destructibility would detract from the game. I agree with performance limitations but bringing down multiple buildings and changing more aspects of a map I think is where this is all headed. I think it's short sighted of him to think that it will make it unplayable.
After trying the PS3 beta for around 15 minutes I just turned it off and told myself to wait until the next gen release. Battlefield was never intended to be played the way current gen consoles allow, it is a game about massive scale battles with enemies everywhere, not only is 24 players nowhere near enough, but the way it runs is horrendous. It deserves to be played on either a PC or a next gen console, luckily the wait for next gen isn't too far off this games' release. I'll be waiting patiently for this and every other current/next gen game that is releasing this year.
On PC it's unplayable. runs 4fps on my 350 dollar gtx660ti. on 360 and ps3 there are number per server limitations and horrible graphics. for next gen, well, next gen didnt come out yet. fuck, pretty much BF4 is useless on any system so far.
@Laedipiros Yeah but Recons already does that and in Single Player jets flys like 30MPH ... In Multiplayer you cant do that. Actually Co-Pilot would be useless in Multiplayer in a Jet.
@iampenguin you gotta remember, he can't necessarily state his own opinions. he may well believe that BF4 should have utilized better/more destruction, but if he said that it may get people thinking "yea, why didn;t bf4 have that?". in order to keep the game in a purely positive light, he has to dance around the point and.or mitigate his own opinions
@Veraxious I agree. It's doable on current gen without jets, but there just aren't enough players in 24 man. In Rush it isn't so bad, with just 1 attack jet, but conquest with jets is just plain boring. Armored kill made it even worse with the addition of the AC130. Just another poorly conceived move by DIce.
@Max_160 also speak for yourself and your own issues trying to get the game to run, there are tons of people playing it every day on pc so it is NOT unplayable. I play it silky smooth with my setup, then again I know what IM doing.
You just cant figure your system out then, Im running bf4 on a pc I built in 2010 just with an updated gpu. I run it at 40 to 60 fps on mostly ultra. I play on a Chicago server and my ping is never higher than about 15ms. You just must have a settting off or something. You should easily be able to get that to work. are you have a cpu usage issue? that's the only really issue Ive heard about. I have an i7 and it utilizes about 60% of my cpu and about 50% of my 8gb of ram. Game runs silky smooth and looks great.
three of my friends all are playing in ultra with their 700 series NVidia cards. I'm guessing its probably a user error on your end.
@STrugglingFool@epicgameresearc scripted becouse its a pre rendered fall,it the building would topple to the sides or lay difernt debris, dinamically that would at least keep it fresh
you must have no clue, they don't update engine versions with expansion packs. also there are several things in bf4 that bf3 does not have.
I think simple minded people like you automatically think its an expansion because the game looks similar... but it a sequal of a game from two years ago. that is not an expansion. an expansion does not include 10 new maps, network wave, levolition, commander and a bunch of new game modes. To me sounds like you haven't even played it.
@arqe@Max_160 nope no software problem. installed latest drivers. BF3 runs 60-70fps on everything ultra. bf4 on lowest settings and lowest resolution runs 4fps with intense stuttering. there are numerous forums on dice forums about this, so i'm positive this is no software issue from my side. dice announced in forums that they are aware of poor performance for a lot of players in the beta.
@razor_rj@STrugglingFool@epicgameresearc u both are noob. sorry for that. It is scripted as the script triggers when u destroy 4 pillars. But it is not pre-rendered. Yes It has the same animation and that animation is in real time. The destruction is not dynamic in all BFs every destruction is a script trigger and the destruction animation is always same for all destructible. There are certain reason to this. If u destroy every thing then all the maps will feel same. Dynamic destruction needs a lot of processing, which is not yet possible with current generation. There are possibilities but that are limited
Everyone I know has been having lots of fun with the beta. Far better map and beta release than bf3 was... and no its not just bf3 with more maps. I can see how you get easily confused because it looks similar, but there are plenty of things in bf4 that are not in bf3. I can see the improvement's just from the beta. and other thing of course its going to look like battlefield, its a sequel (two years). ever heard of that? Or how about this, you ever hear of a software update? yes the engine has actually been updated. so don't speak, it makes you look extremely dumb.
@Max_160@arqe@Max_160 I get 60fps on PC on crossfired Radeon 6950's, I5 3570, 8GB RAM. Maybe your processor is to blame or RAM? Also, it is beta and they are still finding and fixing issues.
Btw i can stream with no lag On full medium settings at twitch. So if it was fully games problem i would'be able to do that. Game itself already lagging and i'm able to stream ? No way.
interesting because with "gtx660 directU OC II" game automaticly did choose settings and 1 or 2 ultra , 2 medium rest is high. and got i5 3570k oc'ed with 16gb ram.
Onyl problem i got is game server freezes for 2 seconds and continues. But no FPS drop.

Wish they would keep some co-op rather than dumping everything into a simple "test range". They could easily have done both co-op and test range.
Two-seater jets would be a great addition. They were a lot of fun in BF2. Even the 2-seater aircraft in BF1942 were a lot of fun.
not buying bf4, i tired all this lock on weapons bullshit. i hope dice goes back to develop ww2 battlefield games
nice
is it just me but he make me want some fryed chicken
are they promoting facebook?
i know its a beta but something needs to be done all over and with 3 weeks to launch the dlc day one must be just a big patch hopfully to sort it

The jet co-pilot is a great idea, we only had the chance to try that on BF3 SP, never on the MP.
The pilot can focus on other air-vehicles while the co-pilot can focus on the ground.
really sick of BF4 hyping tbh

I may be the only one but I loved 2142 and would like another game set in the future.
after BF4, the next battlefield needs to be either bad company 3 or battlefield 1944.

im seriously worried about fps drops during these mass destruction scenes, hope im wrong

pina coladas hey. bad company black flag ;)
@epicgameresearc Scripted? You have to bring it down yourself.
@skipper847 Who dosnt now adays?
@SteamyPotatoes Yeah but the fun part was you had to fly Shotgun even though none of the jets allow that in MP :P
@Laedipiros Yeah but Recons already does that and in Single Player jets flys like 30MPH ... In Multiplayer you cant do that. Actually Co-Pilot would be useless in Multiplayer in a Jet.
@pidginnn It's actually just BF3 with more maps.

@nycprocess Your not the only one.
@C0nv3rsE_VIP on ps3 it dips to like 18FPS when the skyscraper is near the end of falling.

@Max_160 I agree. This BF is looking really bad so far. And I don't just mean graphics. It feels like an expansion pack.
@Max_160 Im running the game on my 2nd pc with gtx660 and it runs normally. you got some software issues probably.
@STrugglingFool @epicgameresearc scripted becouse its a pre rendered fall,it the building would topple to the sides or lay difernt debris, dinamically that would at least keep it fresh

@dogbert784 @pidginnn and if the beta is any indication, more bad maps.
