You have to give it to PC gamers. Throughout all the trials and tribulations of the past few years--plummeting PC sales, the mainstream shift to mobile, Windows RT, et cetera--gamers were one of the few bedrocks Microsoft could rely upon. Virtually all major PC games run on Windows, and many run only on Windows.

News: AMD, Nvidia ramp up Linux driver support after Valve's SteamOS announcement
Well, that didn't take long. Less than a day after Valve announced SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system based around the incredibly popular Steam PC gaming service, both AMD and Nvidia stepped up their driver support for the open-source OS.

The audacious Ubuntu Edge smartphone crowdfunding experience may be dead, but the dream of merging phone and PC lives on. Ubuntu Touch, the form factor-spanning mobile operating system intended to power the Edge, finally has a release date: October 17, alongside Ubuntu Linux 13.10.

News: Canonical takes Ubuntu forums offline in wake of password breach
Canonical, makers of the Ubuntu Linux distribution, recently announced that its Ubuntu help forums suffered a security breach over the weekend. Attackers were able to harvest an estimated 1.82 million user names, email addresses, and passwords from the site. Canonical says it isn't sure how hackers were able to breach its systems and the company has taken the forums at Ubuntuforums.org offline as a precaution.
