Antique, Moyashimon's Natsuko Takahashi to write; drama CD cast retained

The anime adaptation of Yuki Amemiya and Yukino Ichihara's popular 07-Ghost gothic fantasy manga has been confirmed via the launch of its official website. The anime's existence was first revealed two weeks ago when the publisher Enterbrain's website listed the sixth volume of its Charaberrys magazine with a "preview guide book for the new 07-Ghost show in April." After the web listing was discovered, Enterbrain quickly deleted the line about 07-Ghost from the listing.

The manga's story revolves around Teito, a former slave with magical powers who is taking the graduation final to become an army officer in the Barsburg Empire. He does well during the first part of the final exam, but discovers his father's killer in his school and tries to kill him. Teito eludes capture, but gets caught in the larger struggle between Verloren, the God of Death, and the “beings of light” sent by Heaven to oppose him: the Seven Ghosts.

Nobuhiro Takamoto (Tenchi in Tokyo, Tokimeki Memorial ~Only Love~) will direct the anime project, while Natsuko Takahashi (Antique Bakery, Moyashimon, Gakuen Heaven) will oversee scripts. Maki Fujii (Kannazuki no Miko, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie, Hakushaku to Yōsei) is designing the characters whose animation Yukiko Ban (Naruto, Gintama, .hack//SIGN) will supervise. Kotaro Nakagawa (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, s-CRY-ed, Hayate the Combat Butler) will compose the music.

The anime will retain much of the same cast used in an earlier drama CD adaptation, including Mitsuki Saiga (.hack//SIGN's Tsukasa, Kyo kara Maoh!'s Wolfram, Gurren Lagann's Rossiu) as the main character Teito. Junichi Suwabe (X's Fuuma, Fullmetal Alchemist's Greed, The Prince of Tennis' Keigo Atobe), Susumu Chiba (Hikaru no Go's Fujiwara-no-Sai, Gintamas Kondou Isao, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne's Kaitou Sinbad), and Kouki Miyata (Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Hachiyou Shou~'s Shimon Nagareyama, Kyo kara Maoh!'s Ken Murata) will play the bishops Frau, Castor, and Labrador respectively. Veteran actor Sho Hayami (Bleach's Sōsuke Aizen, Descendants of Darkness' Kazutaka Muraki) will play Ayanami, the killer of Teito's father.

The North American publisher Go! Comi announced in May that it has licensed the 07-Ghost manga. The first volume of Go! Comi's release will ship next week, and a preview of the manga has been posted online.
