Hōkago no Pleiades manner movie in June, live-action Nintama Rantaro in July

The official website for Subaru and Gainax's Hōkago no Pleiades anime began streaming a 90-second preview of the "manner movie" that will screen in the United Cinemas chain of Japanese movie theaters from June 4 to July 1. Japanese theaters show manner movies, similar to the reminder videos in other countries, before the main features to remind people to turn off the mobile phones, to avoid talking, and to maintain a pleasant viewing experience for others in the theater. United Cinema will sell limited-edition refreshments and character goods during the campaign.

The anime originated as four anime shorts that debuted on the YouTube website in January to promote Subaru cars.

On Wednesday, the official website for the Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) television anime franchise began streaming the second 184-second promotional video for the original video anime (OVA) episodes that are being included exclusively in the Kuroshitsuji II DVDs.

"Ciel in Wonderland (Part II)" shipped in the sixth DVD volume in February, and it re-imagines the cast of Black Butler II as characters in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland story. "Shinigami Will no Monogatari" (The Story of the Grim Reaper Will) shipped in the eighth DVD volume in April, and it depicts the past of the death god William T. Spears. "Kumo no Ito" (Spider's Intention) shipped in the ninth DVD volume on Wednesday.

The official website for Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of the long-running Nintama Rantaro ninja comedy anime series began streaming the full trailer. (In the linked page, select the "予告編" link in the top menu.) The film will open in Japan on July 23.

In Nintama Rantaro, Seishirō Katō plays the title role of a ninja apprentice at an elite ninjutsu academy in historical Japan. As first-graders, Rantarō and his ninja-in-training friends are called "Nintama" — a contraction of the words "ninja" and "tamago" ("egg"). The television anime adaptation based on Soubee Amako's Rakudai Ninja Rantarō ninja gag manga, which debuted in 1993. There was already an animated film made in 1996, and a new anime film will open in March, before the live-action film's summer opening.
