Buildings and facilities

The library building, designed by Sir Leslie Martin, was opened in 1984 and offers the following facilities:

  • a reading room and open access library collection
  • a reference area with catalogue terminals, catalogues and reference books
  • an audio room with several listening places and facilities for DIY copying of recordings
  • a self-service photocopier (cards can be purchased from the library desk and re-valued with cash) which also allows to scan a small number of pages onto USB memory stick.
  • a multimedia room with computers, a printer, a scanner, electronic keyboards and audiovisual equipment (situated in the Library Annexe)
  • a microfilm reading room with two microfilm readers, one of which attached to a computer for scanning as well as a printer (situated in the Library Annexe)

 

Note on Photocopying and Copyright

The photocopying of copyright material is restricted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (and later amendments) and EU legislation. Users must satisfy themselves that any copying they undertake is legal. Guidelines on copying (incl. the MPA Code of Fair Practice for printed music) are displayed in the photocopying room; guidance on copying sound recordings is displayed in the Audio Room. If in doubt, please consult a recent version of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and the Copyright Licensing Agency’s HE Trial Photocopying and Scanning Licence documentation.
