UK's ITV Close to Signing Deal for Hulu Video Site

posted on 2009-08-26 09:54 EDT

Variety magazine reports that the British television broadcaster ITV is close to signing a deal to import the Hulu video-streaming service and its programming into the United Kingdom. According to the magazine, Hulu is offering ITV an equity stake of 25% or more in the British version of Hulu, in exchange for access to ITV's own programming. However, the discussions have reportedly not resolved the issue of advertising, especially since ITV already has a streaming service at ITV.com.

Hulu is a joint venture of News Corporation, NBC Universal, and Disney-ABC which features many popular anime series such as Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, One Piece, and Fullmetal Alchemist. However, Hulu is officially available only in the United States. If a deal is signed, it will not necessarily cover all the anime content currently on Hulu.
