Lee discusses manga collaboration with Shaman King's Hiroyuki Takei

Otaku USA editor Patrick Macias has posted an audio interview with Spider-Man and X-Men co-creator Stan Lee in which they discuss Karakuridōji Ultimo and Lee's Japanese connections. Ultimo is Lee's manga collaboration with Shaman King's Hiroyuki Takei which will debut in Shueisha's Jump SQ.II inaugural magazine this Friday. Lee will be discussing the project on the same day at a press event in New York Comic Con. The story revolves around two super-powered mortal enemies who clash in the skies over unsuspecting Farmless City. Lee and Takei have been collaborating on the story; Takei is writing the script first in Japanese, and Lee will adapt the script for the American release.

Macias and writer Joseph Luster also preface the interview with a summary of Lee's work inside and outside Marvel Comics, particularly his past links with Japan. Lee wrote the preface to Frederik L. Schodt's Manga! Manga!: The World of Japanese Comics reference book, and the Spider-Man and X-Men comics have been adapted into manga. (Spider-Man was also adapted into a live-action special-effects series with a giant robot in Japan.) Lee is working with the Bones animation studio (Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater) on an animated television series tentatively called Hero Man.
