[EAT] Father’s Day Feasting

Father's Day at RWS

We’ve amassed a few gift ideas for mum for Mother’s Day. But what about dad’s big day on June 16? They say that there’s no better way to a man’s heart than through his tummy, so one fool-proof way to make dad happy this Father’s Day is to stuff him with food glorious food. Here’s a sneak peek of what your family can chow on when you visit on Father’s Day weekend at Resorts World Sentosa.

What’s in a Carrot Cake?

Carrot Cake for The Carrot Cause at Palio

It can easily be found in a bowl of soup, in a plate of stir fried greens or part of a healthy salad dish. We are, of course, talking about carrots.

And to make The Carrot Cause at Palio an even more memorable event, our Executive Pastry Chef Kenny Kong has decided to bake up a storm. What could be better to celebrate the inaugural Carrot Cause than to whip up a gigantic carrot cake? Chef Kong’s delicious cake has just the right proportion of spice to work up a strong nutty taste, covered  in a layer of decadent sour cream frosting.

Twirl it high.

Pasqualino Barbasso, 38, began his career working in his family’s pizzeria in a small town in Sicily, Italy, where he still works to this day when not travelling. Crowned world champion pizza acrobat in 2001 and 2002, the talented pizzaiolo now regularly travels the globe entertaining crowds with his theatrical, dough-spinning stunts and offering masterclasses in creating the very best Italian pizza.

Fresh rice dumplings at Feng Shui Inn

Dumpling at Feng Shui Inn at RWS

Powerful strikes upon the drum. Thunderous roars battling the stubborn waves of the sea. Blood pumping adrenaline. These are just about the sights and sounds of Singapore’s Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Dumpling Festival. And while most of us don’t have the physique and ability to steer these boats, we most certainly have the superhuman ability to stomach these Ba Zhang – many of them, if we can.

Feng Shui Inn has heeded the call of our tummies and created savoury, aromatic dumplings for this festive season, only from 28 May to 12 June.

We bite into three and give you a sneak preview.

An Italian perk-me-up at Palio

By Jay Tan

Palio's delicious Tuscan cuisine at RWS

There is one universal truth: no one escapes the clutches of the Weary Wednesday Monster. Midweek blues are painful for that stranded feeling – you’re tired from Monday and Tuesday, but the weekend is Thursday and Friday away. I decided that I needed a perk-me-up comfort meal, one that will keep my spirits uplifted for the rest of the week.

I popped by good ol’ Palio and gave myself a little treat.

3 things you need to do at the Carrot Cause

The RWS Carrot Cause at Palio

Yes, carrots love Italian cuisine.

It’s Wednesday, 5pm, and the week seemed to have stretched impossibly long. We reckon a good way to break the seemingly unending marathon of work commitments would be to indulge in a good ol’ Tuscan dinner. Better yet, if you eat at Palio on 29 May at the RWS Carrot Cause, your money doesn’t even go to the restaurant – EVERYTHING will be donated to the charity of your choosing.

Here’re 3 ways to make the night even more enjoyable.

Lazy bones day out

Lazy bones day out at RWS

We’ve assessed our thrill rides for all you adrenaline junkies. But not everyone pursues the path of thrills and highs; sometimes, you just want to relax and melt into a puddle of skin and bones. We followed our inner sloth and seeked out places to laze in the Resort.

5 interesting carrot facts

Not all carrots like pizza. But some do.

You see them in stir-frys. In your soup. As snacks. But this seemingly inocuous vegetable root has some amazing properties. And they’re not all orange. We sniffed out some interesting carrot facts.

They’ve been tickling our funny bones since 1938, but this may be mom Morticia’s biggest challenge yet: daughter Wednesday has fallen in love, but has yet to confide in her mother.

Come 9-28 July, you’ll get your chance to meet the Addams family and share in their hilarious dramas. The 2010-2011 Broadway hit musical is moving into Singapore’s Festive Grand Theatre, with a bit of something for every member of your own family.
