Hollywood Dreams Parade

Parade /pəˈreɪd/:
[noun] a public procession, especially one celebrating a special day or event

Some of you might recall that we’ll be launching Universal Studios Singapore’s first ever parade this New Year’s Eve. And I’m sure we can all agree that every day at Universal Studios Singapore is a special day – you don’t get to ride the movies any old time after all.

True to our aim to make it ‘a fun day every day’, the Hollywood Dreams Parade will be a celebration of the spectacle of movies, replete with dazzling dancers, dramatic performances and, er, spitting dinosaurs. As an early New Year’s treat, we’re serving -up five numerical facts about the parade as appetizers before you chow down the full main course when you watch it yourself.

Usher in the year of the dragon with Chinese New Year goodies

I remember fondly of the times when my grandma used to bake her own pineapple tarts and love letters for Chinese New Year. But since her passing, getting access to scrumptious home-baked goodies is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Factory-churned confectionery is just not worth putting on the calories. The pastry is very often dry and the pure buttery goodness that fills up the mouth is almost absent. But this year, our signature Chinese restaurant Feng Shui Inn at RWS is not only offering delicious takeaways, we’re also promoting our exquisite home-made goodies designed to make your CNY very heart-warming. Buy them as gifts for your family or simply treats for your guests.

[Who’s Who] Doorman and Bellman

If you think of a doorman or a bellman you’ll probably think of a smart, solemn-looking man wearing a suit. But there is a distinction between them, and we got three sporting gentlemen to show us just what their jobs entail (and also to show off their fantastic threads).

Feast like a king this Christmas at RWS

Christmas, I must say has become a commercial gimmick. It’s consumerism at its best, when we all find an excuse to buy, to receive and for some—become a slave to giving.

Instead of making frantic buys that become a game of ‘pass the parcel’ or worse, get tossed into the bins, take this time to bond. Spend quality time with family, catch up and talk about future aspirations. Times like these are more cherished than whatever gifts money can buy.

Parties are fun but if preparation and cleaning up takes too much time and effort, make reservations and eat out. In line with our fairy-tale theme at RWS this Christmas, our restaurants have lined up exciting, fantastical menus to evoke the child-like wonder you had of Christmas when you were five.

From Australian-inspired restaurant Osia to Italian restaurant Palio, be it for a quiet dinner for two or a feast for extended families, realise the true meaning of Christmas with us.

aRWSome Wishes 2011

There’s a reason why Santa’s long beard is more suited for the cooler climes of the North Pole; Singapore’s humid 32 degrees is no weather for a wooly coat and extravagant facial hair. But despite the heat, our aRWSome Santa, together with the Little Red Riding Hood, the Toy Soldier and around 45 aRWSome volunteers trooped over to CDCs (Community Development Councils) around Singapore to deliver Christmas goodies to 500 underprivileged children.

Who’s Who – Meet the chefs of RWS!

If there is one thing about this festive season in RWS that I simply cannot escape, it’s the delicious smell of Christmas goodies – savoury dishes, sweet cakes, mouth-watering pastries… Oh I can wax lyrical about it all day. So it’s only fitting that I help you identify the creators of these delicious smells, and recognize that not all chefs do the same job.

aRWSome Apprenticeship (Culinary) Part #2: That’s a wrap!

For two weeks, our hardworking young Apprentices greeted and served customers, tended to the cashier and cleared trays (all with a smile), which is why their ‘graduation’ on December 5 was an important affair.

Stationed at their various F&B outlets for one last time, I caught up with some of them as they awaited guest-of-honour Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Tan Chuan Jin. I could feel their excitement about the graduation as they showered praises and words of gratitude on their team mates and mentors, and were already looking forward to a future of working here next time. Here’s a look at how their graduation unfolded.

Facebook Fans’ Day Out 3: N.E.S.T. Recruit Training

If you were at the resort on 2 December at approximately 2 pm, you probably saw 26 people (sporting Autobot t-shirts and a lanyard with a TRANSFORMERS The Ride tag) running like their life depended on it. And as frantic as they look, they weren’t trying to escape resort security. Or worse, Megatron.

Nope, they were actually RWS Facebook fans on our third FB Fans’ Day Out, and this time round it was for the world premiere of TRANSFORMERS The Ride. Their mission of the day? Complete a very unique ‘scan’venger hunt. What in the name of Cybertron is a ‘scan’venger hunt, you ask? Here’s a hint: take the term ‘scan’ in ‘scan’venger literally.

The Ultimate 3D Battle begins!

Today, Universal Studios Singapore celebrates the grand opening of TRANSFORMERS The Ride, the world’s first theme park attraction based on Hasbro’s popular franchise.

Making a grand entrance on stage in a 2010 edition of the Chevrolet Camaro, TRANSFORMERS film director and executive producer Michael Bay powered up the ride with the ALLSPARK shard – signaling the start of a new era in immersive theme park entertainment with Asia’s most technologically advanced motion thrill ride. Bay also served as the ride’s creative consultant.
