God of War: Ascension Video Review

I bought the game cause I couldn't resists the NAME, I wish they never made it, I wish I could go back in time to the sisters of fate and crush the muddafucka who directed this game.(cause he is an idiot, who has no idea what the first 3 games were about....)

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the transformation of the first boss...and that bug thing bitch is...wtf? RESIDENT EVIL????????

Every monster looks like a RESIDENT EVIL monster ,... some monsters look like are from the Greek Mythology but heaviliy edited to a Resident Evil style....

And the story.....well, I tried to follow....but after 3 days I don't remember every detail....I know I was battling on the giant 1000 armed thingie.... but that's it. This game was overrated seriously...

That idiot game director with his fat face should be fired, this game would've been cool, if !!!!! if!!!! it would show us how Cratos rose to the rank of the Great Spartan warrior he is.... the game should've been about that, about Cratos and his army qunquering new lands.... and the end should've been ended where Cratos begs for he's life for Ares.... (and from that you all know the story....)

Not this crap alternate dimension thingie.... seems to me the people can tell tales only if they stick to Greek mythology,..the moment they left this ground it sucked....

You can buy this game...like me, I did buy it....but WAIT till it's 20 bucks...you are going to be disappointed, if you cared for the story as well....if you was into combat only then it's gona be relatively fine.

I want to play the new GOW, because I'm curious how they are going to implement the new story line, but i will wait until the game sells at 20 dollars, because some of these new games are not worth the 60 bucks.

I'm about an hour into this game and a little confused by the 8. This game feels rushed, unpolished and not nearly as creative. I can tell the minds behind this new game aren't as gifted as the original creators, or they just don't seem to care as much. Hope it gets better.

GOW 3 was better, this game was cool, but I didn't like the change in formula like the R2 not appearing for prompts that were easy to miss, and the the story was very short, great game but kind of a tease with some flaws.. I'm gonna go play GOW2 again.. Pow!

After a progression of brilliance from GOW1 to GOW2 I was fooled into paying full price for GOW3 and that is when I stopped paying full price for games.  Don't get me wrong GOW3 was an awesome game, but it was less than 4 hours of gameplay, in my book no matter how great the game is, if you are paying 60 dollars for 4 hours you got a-- raped to some degree.  So will I get GOW4 damn right I will, will I get it when it comes out and pay 60+ dollars for it, F-CK NO, I'll wait a year or more for this to come under 9.99 before I buy it.

Or if history of micro transactions or expansions are an indicator I'll wait to buy this game when the GOTY edition comes out so I don't have to deal with the massive glitches that is today's games initial releases.  Plus not paying for shit that should have come with the F-cking game in the first place.

I like Kratos but I blame the developers for my disappointment

the review is spot on. i just bought the game and it is very entertaining. i would mianly recommend this game to big GOW fans!

I agree with carlusofwar in that, being a 'fan' of GOW, I don't expect all chapters to be the same.. I'm quite happy controlling Kratos anytome just to dole out some deserved carnage.

A newcomer to the GOW mythos - playing Ascension first,  would probably say the game is a stunner. Negative comments (which anyone's entitled to make) are mostly likely from those who like to have the 'wow' meter always redlined, so when the needle dials down a couple ticks, their easily displeased.

Unlike other game iterations - e.g. Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia or the latest Devil May Cry (those games truly polarized gameplayers) - God of War hasn't done any drastic departure in terms of game mechanics or looks -  it just took us on a path where he dealt with things 'differently'. Who knows .. there might be a circumstance where Kratos would have to go through most of a game breaking every bad guy's bones with his bare hands some day. Would I gripe at that? No.

So personally I won't whine if it's not boss powers but the look/feel of the game is still there. When they make jarring changes (like the cartoony P.O.P. IV i think), that's when I start tooling Blades of Chaos (jk). Some other comments suggested Kratos go to other places than Sparta which I think is a good idea to keep the mythos going!

with simple words . the game is perfect in everything but the story ..  the graphics and sound and the brutal fights are much way better and harder than the previous ones .. but the story wasn't that good as expected ..

It's a very good game. However, the story is very forgettable and the villians are not all that interesting. And, there are numerous graphical and sound glitches in this game. Very weird considering every other GOW was quite polished. Still a fun game, nonetheless.

IMO, GOW3 > GOW2 > GOW > GOW:A > GOW:GoS > GOW:CoO

this game is that hard on the hard setting that it makes the game unplayable, f*** u whoever was involved in the making of this, f***in idiots.....

Really good game , but like everyone keeps saying good old god of war back , and that's the trouble , old , yep I hate to say it coz I luv em , but it is getting tiresome , they could have added some imaginative scope mythological lay , ie:roman or well any ancient empires , battles or mythologies , again dark ages , Vikings, medieval , etc etc , but yet its back to Sparta for some old fashioned fun with outstanding graphics

bought it for multiplayer and it didnt dissapoint me at all combat is very fun diont hesitate to buy aweome online

This game is so awkward at times. Not the gameplay, its the same ol' good stuff. But most of the cuts, camera movements and the narrative are just downright ugly.

I played GOW 3 on hardes difficulty and did all challenges. That was WAAAAY more than 4 hours.

@boomer0901 lol less than 4hours..why do you play on easy?  And no,they even added free stuff to multiplayer like tatoos for your gladitator and new pieces of gear.

@7C7R7N7 Absolute flipping nonsense, God of War III had an amazing OST and the best boss battles in gaming. It's the most perfect game I've ever played. that's coming from someone who's been gaming for 20 years. You either have poor memory or are just a philistine who's tasteless. 

God of War: Ascension is a great game and the multiplayer is the most fresh & fun in years, 9.5/10. Not as good as GoW3 but few games come close to that masterpiece.

@LeoLex_ I agree Im stuck on the trials of archimedes fight on Hard and ffs that part is simply impossible lol..I ALWAYS game on hard but Ive never got to finish GOW3 and GOW:Ascension yet cause Im stuck on 1 fight in both games... Hack N slashes are not my genre,I love GOW but I suck at those games.

Play it on normal its not wicked tuff i think when you get over the tempertantrum you can handle it maybe . If not there is always easy.

@johnny0779 3D takes extra processing power which they were probably pretty short on considering how good the game looks and how old the hardware is.

I typo'ed it, less than 6 hours is what I meant to say, I think it took me 5 1/2 total hours.  Still far to short for 60$

@Tontus123  I am also an experient gamer. I played all GoW games, except by this one. I felt a lack of emotion in the battles of GoW III. The best ones are against Poseidon, Hades and the Scorpion. The first fight against Zeus is good, but the second part is not good enough. To me, all battles against Zeus in the series are boring. The best battle in the whole series is against Thanatos in my opinion. But this is my opinion. I didn't mean that GoW III is a bad game, no way. It's very good, but it could had been better. For me, GoW II is the best one yet.

thats the thing, im not but i only play games on the hardest setting straight of the bat, for the trophies right....if i had more time to play through games more than once this wouldnt bother me so much....

I played GOW 3 on its hardest difficulty, and completed all its challenges. Even got its platinum.

and let me tell you and reassure you, it took me WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY longer than 5 1/2 hours. Get all you can out of the game is all I can tell you.

Even when people do not like to be platinum hunters, people should try and get as many trophies as they can, this wouild make them play as many modes, and accomplish things they would have never even considered.

 im not out to platinum every game, i just choose to play on the hard setting for that trophy as wont play through the game again, plus games are better on hard settings for my skill level...
