Abuse potential (of a given drug)

A general description or a specific measure of the tendency of a drug to evoke a pattern of chemical dependence or compulsive use of that substance. Generally, this correlates with the degree to which the drug generates euphoria and with the speed at which the substance enters the bloodstream (for example, smoking crack has a far greater abuse potential than, say, drinking a dilute solution of cocaine). Once called abuse ability.
