Sony has announced a PlayStation 4 release date of November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe.
The console will be available in 32 countries this holiday, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said today during the platform holder's Gamescom conference. Sony previously announced a PS4 price of £349 / €399 / $399.
As confirmed in a follow-up press release, EU countries on the November 29 launch list include; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
10 Latin American countries will also see a release on November 29, including; Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Peru.
The PR made no mention of the PS4's Japan release date.
More than one million PS4 pre-orders have been placed worldwide, Sony said today. Multiple UK retailers have said they can no longer guarantee a PS4 on release day for those who place new pre-orders.
However, sources close to the matter have told CVG that retail outlets have also been promised additional units for general sale on day one - meaning those who do not pre-order will still have a small chance of buying the system on release day.
First-party PS4 launch titles will include Killzone Shadow Fall, DriveClub and Knack. PS4 owners will require a PS Plus subscription in order to play online multiplayer, which isn't the case on PS3 or Vita. PS4 buyers will receive a 14-day PS Plus subscription including access to Instant Game Collection titles.
Sony also announced today that anyone who purchases a PS3 title from Activision, EA, Ubisoft or Warner Bros that is also coming to PS4, will be able to buy the digital version on the new console for a significantly reduced price.
PS4 will go head-to-head with Xbox One later this year. Microsoft said last week that Xbox One will be released in 13 markets this November, down from the 21 markets initially announced. Microsoft has confirmed an Xbox One price of £429 / $499 / €499.
