President Koroma cracks down at Health Ministry : 10 officials suspended as ACC investigates alleged misuse of donor funds
THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS HEREBY INFORMED THAT THE ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION (ACC) IS INVESTIGATING ALLEGATIONS OF MISUSE OF DONOR FUNDS RELATING TO THE GAVI ALLIANCE ASSISTED HEALTH STRENGTHENING “HSS” CASH SUPPORT TO SIERRA LEONE AND OTHER CORRUPTION RELATED COMPLAINTS APPERTAINING TO THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SANITATION.
THE NATURE AND WEIGHT OF THE SAID ALLEGATIONS MAKE IT IMPERATIVE THAT THOSE INVOLVED SHOULD BE SUSPENDED FROM OFFICE TO PRECLUDE OBSTRUCTION AND INTERFERENCE WITH THE CONDUCT OF THE INVESTIGATIONS.

ACCORDINGLY, HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT HAS DIRECTED THAT THE UNDERMENTIONED OFFICIALS OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SANITATION BE SUSPENDED FROM OFFICE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT:

I don’t think this people needs suspension they should be sack with immediate effect as it involves life and death. Because of this evil and satanic acts that is why the ministry always have problem

The action by President Ernest Bai Koroma to crack down on ten (10) Ministry of Health officials in Sierra Leone should be extended to other Ministries as well. I commend the President for taking action to address the problem, because it is an embarrassment to Sierra Leone.
From a systems perspective, I think that President Koroma should now be pro-active to address corruption in other areas by using the GAVI fund saga as reason to look at financial practices across all ministries and other governmental institutions. Addressing the problem at the Ministry of Health must serve as the catalyst to closely look at other ministries to put corrective measures across the board. I strongly believe that putting systems in place in other ministries and governmental institutions that would save Sierra Leone the future embarrassment of being named as a country involved in disgraceful corruptive practice. In ministries where there is no financial malpractice, implementing new transparent and accountable systems will help to strengthen those ministries, and ultimately the Sierra Leone Government.
Sierra Leone must show that she is serious about addressing corruption and earn the trust of the donor community. Such trust and confidence could make it easier to get outside funding to support other development projects within the country. (my 2 “cents” – Dr. Sandy)
This is a good move by the president to curb the ingrained corruption in offices right under his feet. If these areas are cleansed then it will have a domino ripple effect to the rest of the population in the country. Over to you Jose(ACC) boss complete the task for the benefit of the country
