Grand Theft Auto IV has sold 25 million copies since its launch in 2008, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed.

Speaking at a quarterly earnings call, Zelnick revealed the title shifted 11 million units in its first month, and has since sold up to 25 million copies.

Zelnick revealed in November 2012 that the whole GTA series has sold 125 million copies. This figure includes all titles since the series' PSone debut.

Despite releasing in 2008, GTA IV was still one of the biggest earners in Take-Two's last quarter, next to newer titles such as Borderlands 2, NBA 2K13 and BioShock Infinite.

The company reported better than expected results for the quarter, with losses down to $62m compared to last year's $111 million.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will release on September 17. According to analysts, it's the third most pre-ordered game according to figures recorded since E3 2013.

A series of new GTA 5 screenshots were released earlier this week. Rockstar will detail the game's multiplayer component for next month.
