Matt

thank you for posting the webinars, as I can not be involved in the live one I so appreciate being able to view them when I can.  I was watching January's webinar where you were asking the viewers if they had examples of using the screen cover with the table.  I have one that I used at my school for a SmartBoard training that is set up as a graph.  This of course could easily be created as a math graph for kids in the classroom.  I will attach my graph in hopes someone can use the idea for their class.  favorite color, favorite class, etc.

Thank you, Dee. Great example. And I'm glad someone is watching the recordings.

Hi Matt,

I also view all recordings of the webinars, thanks for providing them. I'm not a big fan of the table tool but I have used it successfully during drama. I set up a table with images and words to the side for students to view. The words consisted of emotions and the images were photos and cartoons of emotive images. Students were required to match the name of the emotion with the photo and image. I also invited students to draw their own interpretation of the emotion to drag into the table. To use the table shade, you could have the word or images revealed and then ask students to predict what is behind the screen shade. You can also use the table tool to create a roll call to aid in classroom organisation. Here is the link below (you just need to watch the first 30 seconds) to view how you can do this.

 http://inter-tech.com.au/category/smartboard-news/  (Classroom organisation ideas)

Other ideas off the top of my head for use of the table shade include:

-      Hide number patterns and reveal a few numbers. Invite students to predict the number pattern, write a formula for the pattern and then reveal the correct numbers to test their formula.

-      Hide letters/words behind the shades and invite students to predict what letter comes next (alphabetical order).

-      You could use a table with two columns and type in true or false questions/greater or less than questions/odd or even questions etc (the answer being hidden under the screen shade).

-       You could even use the same principle for languages ( ie masculine, feminine or... I only speak English but language teachers could apply their knowledge).

-       Or music teachers, have a note revealed in the table and put a screen shade over the top of the name of the note for students to predict and then reveal.

-      Art teachers may choose to change the colour of a cell and use the screen shade to reveal if the colour is hot/cold/warm etc.

Jo

Great ideas, Jo. Thanks for posting. I'm glad someone else is watching the recordings. I'd love to have you present sometime.

Another idea for table tool that I thought of. Use it in conjunction with the fill tool so students can create fractions. I have attached an example.

Hola Matt,

Thanks for posting these so we can view them since I usually have technical difficulties when participating in webinars. Any future plans for webinars about iPads and Smart Board? I'm trying to research their effectiveness to decide if our school should pilot them in a few grades. P.S. I love your Ning!

Great topic. I'll ask around and see if someone who does this could present sometime.

Ipad on smartboard ideas great - We are using Ipads in some classrooms, but unfortunately, they are visual aids through the apps (science) and cannot interact only through the ipad not the smartboard.  But if you guys can come up with a way of interactively using them on smartboard that would be superb!! Here's hoping!

Great webinars. Thanks for posting. You turned me on to Learning Station Insight and I applied for the grant. We'll see how it goes.

Great. The rep will be presenting at the next meeting if you want more information.

These archived webinars are awesome!! Thanks so much for doing this. I am just going through them and came across Harvey's presentation on Brain Rules. What great information especially if you are trying to justify with research why you should have a SMART board in your classroom.

He mentioned that he would post the presentation somewhere on this site but I can't find it. I know it was Nov. 2011 but is that still available? Love to have a copy!

Thanks again!

Let me email him. Now that I think of it, I don't think we connected after. Stay tuned.
