Newsbrief: Sniper Elite studio Rebellion is the next big-name developer to release a game via Zynga's browser-based games platform, as the company revealed Evil Genius Online this week.

The game will take the original Elixir Studios real-time strategy game from 2004, and put a free-to-play spin on the concept. Players form evil syndicates, spy on each other, and share information. Rebellion has owned the rights to Evil Genius since 2006.

The plan is to launch the game via Zynga.com and Facebook later this year -- notably this is Rebellion's first social browser game. Those people interested in getting in on the beta can sign up here.

Argh...great use of that license there Rebellion. Sit on it for ten years then dump it out as a browser game right after the browser bubble pops.
