Justin Timberlake Turns Gay for 'The Cleveland Show'

5 August 2010 10:12 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Justin Timberlake will lend his voice to a gay character in a popular animated TV series. Fox representatives have recently confirmed to MTV News that the "SexyBack" singer will be showing off his comic side on "The Cleveland Show" by voicing Paul.

Back at this year's San Diego Comic Con, show creator Rich Appel has praised the Sean Parker of "The Social Network" for his work on the series. He gushed to Us Weekly, "Justin is just hysterical!" Rich further details that the singer's character, Paul, is the boyfriend of Jason Sudeikis' Terry. "Terry falls in love with a guy voiced by Justin," he spilled.

Paul isn't the only character the 29-year-old singer/actor will be filing for in a February 2011 episode of "Family Guy" spin-off. The network's reps have also mentioned that he will be heard as a character named "Booger," who is described as a "singing booger »

Justin Timberlake to Voice Two Characters on 'Cleveland Show'

Justin Timberlake will show his comedy chops by voicing not only one but two characters on Fox's "The Cleveland Show". The singer turns actor's representative has confirmed that he will be the voice of Paul and Booger in the episode airing February 2011. "Justin is just hysterical!" praised show's creator Rich Appel.

Providing more details to the new characters, MTV News stated that Paul is the boyfriend of Jason Sudeikis' Terry. "Terry falls in love with a guy voiced by Justin," Appel then told Us Weekly. Meanwhile, Booger is none other than a "singing booger" belonging to Cleveland's stepson Rallo.

This is not the first voice acting done by Timberlake. He voiced Artie in "Shrek the Third" and will soon be heard as the voice of Boo-Boo Bear in the feature film remake of cartoon classic "Yogi Bear". He, in person, is going to appear in "The Social Network", a »

Toy Story 3 set to become UK's biggest animated movie ever | Charles Gant

Pixar hit benefits from school holidays to break records while Karate Kid beats A-Team in retro face-off

The winner

With just shy of £40m earned from 14 days on release, Toy Story 3 is already earning its place in the record books. A week ago, it stood at number 24 in the chart recording the UK's all-time biggest animated hits. Seven days later, and it has overtaken 21 of those titles, including such monster hits as Shrek The Third (£38.74m), The Simpsons Movie (£38.66m), Monsters, Inc (£37.91m) and Finding Nemo (£37.36m). In the animated hall of fame, Toy Story 3 now stands in third place, behind the lifetime totals of only Shrek 2 (£48.24m) and Toy Story 2 (£44.31m). Since its current rate of decline is modest, it is almost certain to snatch the all-time animated crown by this time next week.

Toy Story 3's particularly aggressive preview strategy makes comparisons with other top performers tricky, »

See The New Yogi Bear Trailer & Poster

28 July 2010 9:46 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

I kid you not. From Yahoo! Movies comes this first teaser trailer for “everyone’s favorite pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear Yogi Bear, a live-action/CG animated adventure in 3D to be unleashed December 2010.” Is nothing sacred anymore?

Good night nurse. I shake my head at the thought of this kind of schlock.

Synopsis:

Jellystone Park has been losing business, so Mayor Brown has decided to shut it down and sell the land. That means families will no longer be able to experience the natural beauty of the outdoors and, even worse, Yogi and his pal Boo Boo will be tossed out of the only home they’ve ever known. Faced with his biggest challenge ever, Yogi must prove that he really is “smarter than the average bear,” as he and Boo Boo join forces with Ranger Smith to find a way to save the park from closing forever.

Toy Story 3 animates lifeless figures with biggest-ever Pixar debut

28 July 2010 1:47 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Disney's previews-based triumphalism is misleading but Toy Story 3 is still set to net its makers a packet – and batter Shrek

The winner

"To infinity and beyond": Buzz Lightyear's well-worn catchphrase lends itself rather conveniently to reports of Toy Story 3's UK box-office success. With an official debut of £21.19m, the franchise's much-anticipated second sequel is the biggest-ever opening for an animated movie and has already surpassed the total gross of Pixar's lowest-achieving hit Cars (£16.5m). According to Disney's press release, Toy Story 3's opening is 30% greater than its nearest animated rival and the second-biggest UK debut ever behind Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Of course, it's more complicated than that. Like many blockbuster openings, Toy Story 3's impressive figures have been achieved with the help of previews, which in this instance took place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday when kids were home »

First the good news: Inception is a hit. Now the bad news ... | Charles Gant

20 July 2010 9:50 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Despite strong showings from Inception, Shrek and Twilight, the UK box office is down 45% on this time last year

The winner

Given its position as the only major blockbuster this summer not based on previously existing characters, it's fair to say there's a lot riding on the success of Inception. If it fails, that's another nail in the coffin of original stories – hits big, and the major studios might be more willing to fish for movie ideas outside their preferred ponds of comic-books, videogames, fantasy literature, TV shows and theme park rides.

We don't anticipate a rush to fund that $150m passion project from, say, Darren Aronofsky, but the Christopher Nolan original screenplay business is certainly one that Hollywood will be happy to be in. A £5.91m opening for Inception – exactly in line with its Us debut of $61.8m – is a great result for a film whose characters were not previously familiar to audiences, »

Shrek Forever After leaves UK box-office rivals green with envy | Charles Gant

Shrek's weekend dominance did not prevent a solid debut for Heartbreaker, but preview estimates suggest the opening weekend of Twilight: Eclipse will shake things up next time round

The saviour

It's been a long wait, but finally it's here: a movie that consumers actually want to see. After a whole month in which no new release has grossed as much as £4m, Shrek Forever After has arrived to pack the multiplexes. The green ogre's fourth adventure opened with £8.96m, including just over £3m in previews. This is the second biggest debut of the year, behind Alice in Wonderland (£10.56m). The Shrek sum represents 81% of the total grossed by the whole of this weekend's top 10 films. It also helped the market record a 227% increase on the previous weekend, when Get Him to the Greek streaked miles ahead of a weak field of battle-weary veterans.

Fairy tale fail: when our favourite stories are told improperly

2 July 2010 2:40 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Fairy tale stories have been told and retold for generations - so how do movie makers get their adaptations so wrong? Here are our suggestions...

Even though Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood is the freshest example to date, popular fairytales, fables, and folklore have been told and retold (and retold again) in films for decades. The communal nature of these stories and the bond to the material creates a collective acceptance to passing them on from generation to generation and through various reiterations.

But in a world where films get remade multiple times and sequels are put into production before their predecessors are released, fairy tales both beloved and unexamined are likely to be milked for new movies. Films like Red Riding Hood, Maleficent, and another live action Cinderella are already in the works.

The likely path will see these movies relying on the audience’s familiarity and fondness for »

Shrek Forever After review

1 July 2010 9:19 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mike Myers returns to voice Shrek Forever After. After a lukewarm third instalment, can the fourth recapture the original's magic?

Once upon a time, there lived an intellectual property by the name of Shrek, which made a whole ton of money for DreamWorks and some Hollywood actors. In fact, the first movie brought in so much cash, they all got together and made another one.

It wasn't quite as good as the first, but it still made a profit, so they went ahead and made another. Once again, it wasn't quite as good as the last film, but still made enough money for them to create yet another, and this one was in 3D, because as everyone knows, we're all going to hell and the only way to get there is by bandwagon. Thus, Dreamworks jumped on this bandwagon, got even richer, and everyone lived happily ever after.

The 5 films that can save the summer

30 June 2010 9:45 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

It’s been Hollywood’s worst blockbuster season in years. But hope may be around the corner, as the back end of the summer schedule boasts a collection of films that may just save the season…

It's become clear, whether you're a following of reviews or box office numbers, that 2010 has marked Hollywood's most underwhelming summer for some time (since 1997, perhaps?). With only one film really delivering on expectations (that'd be Toy Story 3, although there's an argument for Twilight: Eclipse too), and most others underperforming to some degree, there are some in Hollywood who would presumably look to write this year off, learn their lessons, and then try again.

However, don't write the summer off just yet. Because the back end of the release schedule appears to have a collection of really quite interesting films. Could the ones we're about to discuss be the ones to rescue summer blockbuster season? »

Toy Story 3 is #1 for 2nd weekend

27 June 2010 8:11 PM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Earlier today my 8-year-old son went to see Toy Story 3 at an afternoon matinee with his gramma. The theater was packed with kids and adults alike. That scenario seems to have played out in theaters across the continent this weekend as TS3 won its second straight weekend at the top of the box office, besting the new Adam Sandler comedy and the new Tom Cruise action movie.

(Incidentally both he and his gramma loved Toy Story 3.)

The three-quel earned an additional $59 million bucks, down just 45% from last week's $100m+ weekend. Toy Story 3 now stands with a cumulative take of $226.5m dollars, plus another $100 mil from international runs. It's currently the seventh-highest grossing Pixar film ever and is just $19 million dollars away from beating the top earner in the franchise, Toy Story 2 (which should happen closer to the end of this week.) It's going to easily blast past »

Rashid Irani's review Toy Story 3

25 June 2010 12:32 PM, PDT | Hindustan Times - Cinema | See recent Hindustan Times - Cinema news »

Whether it’s The Godfather Part III, The Matrix Revolutions or Shrek the Third, second sequels rarely measure up to the preceding installments. Thankfully, Toy Story 3 is an exception. Displaying the same combination of vibrant visuals, indelible characters and strong vocal performances, this is a worthy successor to the first two animation blockbusters. The plot once again hinges on the genial cowboy (Hanks), his space-ranger pal (Allen) and the other toy buddies. When their teenage owner heads for college, the discarded playthings are donated to a daycare center full of toddlers. Their new abode, however, is hardly the paradise that they were led »

Shrek Forever After Review

25 June 2010 2:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This weekend sees the public previews of the latest movie in the Shrek series so now seems a good a time as any to give a HeyUGuys review of it!

Shrek has been a big hit in our household since the first film came out what seems like half a lifetime ago but the announcement of a new, and allegedly final, movie received a mixed reaction because for us “Shrek The Third” was to the Shrek series what “Epsiode 1 – The Phantom Menace” was to Star Wars. We desperately wanted to like Shrek the Third, we really did. We just, well, didn’t. We even bought the DVD in case the kids wanted to watch it again but I think it’s still sitting somewhere, immaculate in its shrink-wrapped perfection… if only I could remember where we put it.

This left me in a quandary. Should I let the happy memories »

Weekend Box Office Review: Toy Story 3 Opens With Massive $110m, Jonah Hex Makes Just $5.3m

21 June 2010 1:34 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Toy Story 3 ended its first weekend with $110 million, setting a record for Pixar and the month of June. It is the second-biggest opening weekend for an animated film (behind Shrek the Third's $122 million), the fourth-biggest 'part 3' opening weekend, the biggest opening weekend ever in June, and the 10th-biggest opening of all-time. It is far and away the biggest opening weekend in Pixar history (Finding Nemo and The Incredibles both opened with $70 million). Truth be told, I'm a little disappointed in the number, when you factor in the $41 million opening day. When you factor in the usually high multipliers for kids flicks, along with the across-the-board raves from critics and audiences, I honestly expected (or at least was rooting for) a top-five opening weekend. As it is, it is just »

Pixar puts a hex on Jonah with Toy Story 3

21 June 2010 1:09 PM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Toy Story 3 proved a major player at the Us box office this past weekend, landing the top spot with $109million.

It was the biggest launch for Pixar Animation Studios, beating the $70.5million debut of The Incredibles in 2004, and the second biggest start for any animated feature, behind Shrek The Third's $121.6million, reports film data site Box Office Mojo.

Pixar saw 60 per cent of earnings for Toy Story 3 come from 3D screenings.

Meanwhile, gunslinging action film Jonah Hex - starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich - fired a blank. It made just $5.1million on its first weekend, entering the box office chart in eighth place.

Based on a DC Comics' title with supernatural and Wild West elements, the Warner Bros release was the weakest opening for a DC adaptation since 1997's Steel and even lower than the poor performance of the recent DC-based offering The Losers. »

“Toy Story 3″ sets a new monthly record for Pixar

21 June 2010 10:13 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

By Scott Mendelson

HollywoodNews.com: “Toy Story 3″ ended its first weekend with $109 million, setting a record for Pixar and the month of June. While it is merely the second-biggest opening weekend for an animated film (behind “Shrek the Third’s” $122 million) and the 10th-biggest opening of all-time, it is far and away the biggest opening weekend in Pixar history (“Finding Nemo” and “The Incredibles” both opened with $70 million). Of course, since the second-biggest June opening weekend (“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”), the fifth-biggest ‘part 3′ opening (“Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith”), and the third-biggest animated opening (“Shrek 2″) both scored a bit over $108 million over their debut weekends, “Toy Story 3″ will have to hope that the estimate holds water come tomorrow or risk losing ground in those respective record books.

Truth be told, I’m a little disappointed in the number, when you factor in the $41 million opening day. »

Monday Morning Box Office Report: Toy Story 3 is the Biggest Pixar Opening Ever

21 June 2010 6:20 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Toy Story 3 did every bit as well as expected over the weekend, opening with a tremendous $109 million haul, making it the biggest start for a Pixar movie ever. By comparison, The Incredibles opened with just $70.5 million, which shows just how much 3-D and the threequel factor can help the bottom line. Toy Story 3 was second only to Shrek the Third for animated openings, and now ranks #10 on the all-time opening weekend list, just ahead of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It is certainly good news since this is just what the summer needed -- especially considering that the other major release, Jonah Hex, tanked big time. It barely made $5 million from 2800 screens. Is anyone surprised? 1. Toy Story 3 -- $109M 2. The Karate Kid -- $29M 3. The A-Team -- $13.8M 4. Get Him to the Greek -- $6.12M 5. Shrek Forever After -- $5.52M 6. Two Wild West heroes entered the box-office arena this weekend. Only one gunslinger made it out with victory to his name. That badge-wielding cowboy goes by the name of Woody, the pull-string action figure at the center of "Toy Story 3," Pixar's latest effort that easily outgunned "Jonah Hex."
