Pangal Gopalkrishna Nayak of Canara High School, Urwa and Vanessa D' Souza of St Agnes High School bagged the title in the under-16 boys and girls category in the AYS Children Chess Festival 2011 organised by Ashokanagara Yuvaka Sangha (AYS) here. The event consisted of 7 round Swiss league for boys and 6 round Swiss league for girls in under 9, 12 and 16 categories. More than 190 players participated in the event.

Chandrapur: Eeterinary experts successfully operated upon a tigress with serious head injuries in Bramhapuri range. Doctors sedated the tigress and stitched the injury on the head and administered intravenous medication after the minor operation.

In the wake of curb on gold import by the central government and weak sentiments, the jewellers in Indore are currently busy finding out innovative ways to woo their customers. Also, they have pinned their hopes on the forthcoming India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), which begins on August 08 in Mumbai. Nearly 300 jewellers from the city are likely to attend the event. They are planning to take a cue from the new arrivals in jewellery designs from the show.

The South Western Railway has revised the timings of train no. 17315 Vasco-Velankani weekly express with immediate effect for eight trips upto September 9.  The train will now depart from the Vasco railway station every Monday at 2 pm instead of 9 am. and arrive at Velankanni station at 7.30 pm instead of 12.25 p.m, the next day.
