The World Bank is going to assist the state government in spreading awareness among the rural population about judicious use of water, water conservation and impart required training to the people from 2013-14.

With an objective to improve credit potential and encourage organisations working at the grass root level, World Bank has invited applications from social enterprise projects working in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh to participate in the 2013 India Development Marketplace (DM) . Having picked 15 successful projects of Bihar, Rajasthan and Orissa in the year 2011 and giving them cash award of $50,000 to $ 1,00,000 the Bank has now invited entries from these second group of low income group states.

UP State Water Structuring Project Phase-II is a huge project involving an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. The project which is scheduled to be implemented in the next seven years aims at ensuring maximum irrigated area with the available water by modernising lower Ganga canal irrigation system. 

The World Bank team comprised Winston U, Ben Obrein, Abhorwankar, MK Goyal, Anju Gaud, Dr Anupam Joshi, Shankar Narayanan, S Bal Gopal and Tanuj Mathur. The World Bank team apprised APC about its findings during visit to project area. 

He said that the project in its totality, whether it is construction work or availability of staff, will go through according to time table drawn out to complete the project. This assurance was given to World Bank team by the APC in a wrap up meeting in his office.

UP agriculture production commissioner, Alok Ranjan, has assured the world bank team that UP will implement modernisation of lower Ganga canal irrigation system project funded by World Bank as per the time table agreed upon between the state and the financer.
